Venting - literally

Who knew a vent valve for my Freestar's gas filler would cost $300 to replace. But it was either that or fight the filler hose's shutting off about every gallon or two during fueling - and getting worse. That's still less than one car payment on a new car, though.

For another $300 I can get the cruise control fixed. I think I'll pass on that. I don't often use it. But it would be nice to have for our upcoming trip to Florida.

I'm planning to ride the Florida Safari, a 6-day bicycle ride out of Live Oak, followed by three days of riding with the Coast 2 Coast group. They will arrive in Madison the day Safari ends, then ride on to St. Augustine. I know most of the staff from riding it in 2010, and one of my fellow riders is along this time. I did this last year, too, but rode with them across the panhandle before Safari.

It will be interesting to see the group dipping wheels in the Atlantic after riding clear across the US. It was an emotional moment for me back in '10, and I want to see another group of riders when they accomplish this feat.
