Let the madnes begin!

Oy... where did my winter break go? Seemed all to short. *le sigh* At least this year we weren't afflicted with a god-forsaken stomach bug of sorts like during previous years. Something was making it's rounds during Thanksgiving, but I think it was a weak one we might've had before cause it didn't make us flat out sick.

Alas, school begins again tomorrow. Got the Christmas decor put up today, cause I know I will not have much time afterwards. On the upside, both classes are online. No parking passes or having to arrange ofr someone to pick-up Josh for me! But, from what I have experience of these online classes it he pass, they act like we are taking just that class. There generally is a lot of reading to do, combined with weekly assignments of some sort. Then also a project on top of that toward the latter of the semester. The class I took last semester had TIMED quizes AND a homework assignment to do every week. At least he provided a Powerpoint presentation that highlighted the points covered in all the articles we were to read.

I'm seriously considering dropping a class if it does prove to be too much. Gotta save my sanity in the end!

These two classes are the last required ones before I start work on my thesis projects. Next fall and following spring will be put on this. The sad thing is that I'm not totally certain what I like to focus on.... orginally I wanted to do a project with a company, but that I haven't been able to network with anyone yet.

I am very much interested in the promotion and development of Personal Health Records. Both project assignments on PHRs in the last two classes have recieved enough recognition that they wanted to publish the findings and report. Another area I like to build on for these is a way to include dental and vision into the health plan. I also like the idea of a patient being able to communicate with all their doctors and providers for whatever need, and to also get alerts and reminders for meds and appts, etc.

I also wish I could help out the offcie I am currently working at, but money is an issue there in order to have any update on IT technology. Much is the problem for many smaller healthcare providers too.... trying to adapt to more advanced technology, elctronic mehtods, and security for all of the above costs lots money. And yes, another part of what my classes cover are sound mehtods to also get said money, and how to work in upgrades as the funding comes in.

Then the other part, of course, is just changing the mindset about technology. That is the hardest part to overcome. Sadly, I do better with the research details and the written explanations on how to use the software applications. Consulting is relatively easy, but I don't market very well since I'm not that much of a people-person. I'm just horrible about giving presentations, even with powerpoint and all kinds of visiual aids. Hmm... hopefully I'll find my place in this field by the end of this year.
