Holding down the fort again at work this week. It's actually be rather managable so far, without getting too many gninormous rush orders from marketing that they needed yesterday. That's been the Law of Murphey around here when one of us goes on vacation, I'm telling yah! LJ also seems to be back on the ok list too.. must have been some quesionable ads freaking out their intranets.
I'm relaly starting to be impressed with my garden. Setting up everyone along the sunny south side of the house, coupled with really good soil that the previous owners put in, certainly does wonders!
My kids are getting into the gardening aspect as well, and finding it fun to look at the plants perioudically to find any new flowers or fruit/veggies. Even though Josh likes eating most veggies, I was surprised he willingly wanted to eat the first cuke I picked yesterday. Garden grown little salad cukes are the best... they are much more sweeter and more flavorful than the ones from the grocery store. I definitely will need to make a larger, wider trellis for the plants next year, causr it seems a 5 by 5 set up now seems to SMALL for both the cuke (one plant) and the green beans (five plants).
Pulled up the rest of the radish since it bolted and made kimchi from the leaves that weren't all bug bitten. The Perilla is everywhere too, so hubby picked a bunch of leaves to make another type of kimchi with them. This is kind of cool to have so much to actually make kimchi that we would have to pay a LOT to get a small amount of from the stores.
Of course, I thank God for his help. I will admit I am not a green-thumb with it comes to potted plants. Usually forgwet to water those and they die, or they don't get enough sun, or nutrients from that bitty pot. Because of this, I hardly have any potted plants insdie or outside of my house! *lol*
Also! Finally bought that Japanese Maple last Friday. When to a nice nursery since they had the best selection. Sadly, they also had big nursery prices. I decided to go ahead wiht it,and "sacrifice" the option of getting a 32G iTouch this year. I could wait til later, like during Christmas when the prices would most likely be even cheaper!
The Queen's Crimson was the top of the line for lace leaf, so I decided on a Tamukeyama variety. This was also a laceleaf, but not as mounting or delicate looking. Mine was around 5 foot tall, with some slight weeping. Very nice. Still waiting on them to deliver it though.
For those in America - Have a good FOruth of July weekend! :D
