Interesting, Very, Very Interesting...

TOK was actually quite enjoyable today, not because I didn't have to do my presentation, but because David Goldberg's was so good. His Topic was do we really need Grades, this escalated into a discussion on how bad the school system is.

So I then made the argument that school should not be mandatory and that you should have to pay, much like a college environment. I went on to say that the reason why the overall quality of our education is so bad is because the dregs of society are bring our education down to their level. I mean, do you question the steadily declining test scores, the debasement of school textbooks and curriculum, the increasing need for remedial courses, NO. That is because everyone is allowed in. Say for instance that the bottom 2/3 of the school does horrible on the FCAT, which they do, they take money away from your school. That money could have been used to get better teachers and books, and all that good stuff. If your school had a system of entrance like a college then your overall educational experience would be better.

After I had made this opinion, most people agreed that it was a great idea. David just sat back and smiled, because he knew what I had just said was Fascism, and he was right. I knew that well before I started my argument.Yet everyone seemed to accept the fact that a school system funded and controlled by "the state"(aka the Government)would be better than what we have now. After David told everyone that it was indeed Fascism, they were like, its a bad idea then. But a moment ago it worked quite well, how odd.

Well, it seems like there is a little Fascist in all of us, even if we don't want to admit it.
