We only used horses up at the arena barn so they gave me Lakota since Chai is out in a field, Heather rode Sarafina, and Shelbi (a girl from camp and who've we've been trying to ride with since) rode George. Makeala rode Hancock, and her daughter rode Piper
1. Groomed/tacked Up
2. Side-passing exercise (going right: lift left hand, no pressure w/ right rein. Press w/ left leg and as soon as starts to give release)
3. Corrected tack (tightened chin strap, switched breast collar, tightened cinch and tie down (to check line should just touch neck).
4. Warm-up circles - make sure tuck head in so can see inside eye
5. Once relaxed and consistently turns head trot both directions (using minimal rein pressure, and inside leg to make circle bigger)
6. Break
7. Canter circles with break in-between directions. Now Lakota and I had been having problems turing the head and in and him relaxing so when he cantered he did well one direction then refused other way, with him running off/trotting/turning to small of circles. Lola coached me through all of these circles and congratulated me when Lakota finally listened, picked up the canter, and circled nicely. I felt special :P lol!
8. Switch horses (get used to them and then canter circles). Shelbi rode Sarafina, I rode George, and Heather rode Lakota. George liked me for awhile until he figured out I wasn't Shelbi. Made one circle too big and ran into Lakota :/ George has a really smooth canter although his trot isn't great. Heather doesn't care for Lakota much anymore
9. Worked on collecting/lengthening horses strides between ground poles (Lakota and I did very well at this except I pushed him a little too much on the extended trot and he fell into a canter right before the poles... :/
10. Cooled out horses. Lakota was incredibly sweaty, and didn't want to walk until we lead our horses.
11. Asked Lola about Teen Camp. finally mustering up enough courage Heather and I headed into the barn to find Lola. I asked if we could go and she replied that we'd definitely be ready...or something long those lines...YAYNESS!!!!!
