Last week, while driving to
cairobat's in Crockett, the road was swarming with butterflies. Huge, never-ending flocks of them smashing into the windshield; carcasses littering the road. It was spectacular. I asked Tracy about it and she didn't know what was up, but it was freaking her out.
Today, Mom clipped the following out of Gary Bogue's column: They are painted ladies. You may recall the huge painted lady migration back in April when millions of the beautiful insects fluttered by on their way north. I'm guessing a lot of those butterflies laid eggs when they stopped by in our yards, and those eggs have now become the butterflies we're all enjoying today. Mystery solved.
