Tim Powers and his Expiration Date

Apr 09, 2010 10:07

I have enjoyed every one of the Tim Powers books I have read so far. It was great that I came across him. I hope he has more new stuff coming out soon.

Expiration Date is the second book in a loose trilogy that started with Last Call and ends with Earthquake Weather. Not really a true trilogy since characters aren’t shared in the three books. But more of a shared universe with related themes and locations.

Expiration Date has some interesting concepts and Powers has always been great when it comes to big and interesting ideas. This book, however, Powers lacks the execution he had in Last Call and his other works. It has been tough to get into and my usually two weeks to finish a book of this size has taken longer because I have been ignoring it day to day.

I really want to like this book.  I really want to finish this book.  I hope by the end of it I can come back and say how great it was and that the build up has a huge pay off by the end.

I hope.
