My cousin Cami invited me along to Projekt Revolution on Friday. Short notice but I had nothing else planned Saturday so I was cool with it. They had an extra ticket.
So it was an all-day event. Saosin was there...I don't really like them. They're ok I guess. I just don't like them because what I've heard of them they barely sing and I don't understand their lyrics and I don't understand why people like them. They're instrumentals sound like any other hardcore band to me. Generic - crap.
They were on the side stage and that's also where Mindless Self Indulgence played. I think this band is really underrated. They make themselves seem like assholes with offensive comments between songs and just.....kinda obscene, lude, antics. But I'm pretty sure it's all an act. The music is awesome. Punk with falsettos and dance beats, and 2 chiks playing drum and guitar. Rock you can dance to. I love it. So what if the lyrics are crap? Their uniqueness totally makes up for it.
Onto the main stage, Julien K played...I wasn't there for them but their instrumentals sounded pretty cool. I read somewhere they're made up of the former members of Orgy, which I love.
I was there for Placebo though!!! Placebo...had some good songs, but mostly they sucked. The singer......does not have a good voice. But I'm pretty sure a big factor in their sucking was that.....they were like the odd man out on the whole concert. Why the fuck would an indie rock band like Placebo be playing the same gig as Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance? They were totally not in their element and that's probably why they sucked. The guitarist was awesome though. Good stage presence.
HIM played. HIM SUCKED. They all looked like they were under hte influence of some fucked up drugs and the singer was SMOKING as he sang! No wonder his voice was SHIT. HE LOOKED LIKE SHIT. Once in a while he let out a wail that rocked the house, but for the most part, they were the shittiest band there.
TAKING BACK SUNDAY!!! Yeah I know, emo shit right? I don't know. I love them. They're just like that happy emopoppunk with sensitive lyrics that I like. The singer was awesome. He was thrashing around the stage and doing tricks with his mike. At one point he was crawling on the stage, singing the whole time, and he inched his way toward one of the security guys at the end of the stage, grabbed his head, turned it toward himself, and kissed him. It was hilarious! The guy was like surprised as hell and confused. The look on his face was priceless. Anyway, I love Taking Back Sunday and they really got me excited for the next bands.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE. They were awesome. I know...I'm against everything they stand for....but they're my guilty pleasure. They just rock. I know they stole Marilyn Manson's makeup, goth people's clothes, and My Blood Valentine's name, and their music from all these 90s bands, but hey man, when you're surrounded by hardcore MCR teenies screaming at Gerard Way, it's hard not to enjoy yourself because of the energy around you and the music isn't bad either. They're really good at putting on a show. Halfway into it Gerard full on made out with the guitarist. It was freaking hot. But I did feel wierd because......people fucking worship them!!! And I was just like.....ok, they're not...the Beatles. (They've been done before.)
ANYWAY.
Headliners: Linkin Park
Wow. It was wierd seeing them. First off, I didn't even know they had a new album come out in May, because frankly, I lost interest in them when everyone became obsessed with them, and they were played 24/7 on the radio. Anything after their first album, I couldn't care less. Their first album to me was the only good one. Most rocky at least.
I have a soft spot for them though because they were the first band that really got me into rock and writing poetry and tattooes and piercings and hair dye and just rock - and hard rock.
So when they played a shitload of songs off their first album, I was enjoying the shit out of them because well, it was nostalgic going back to 7th grade, that transitionary period where....Linkin Park was just...god to me. I was headbangning, dancing, and singing along at the top of my voice and that was what fucking made the night.
I was so surprised when they played songs off their new album, because, holy shit, they were actually pretty good. Yeah, they've got that.....hard metal/rap sound, but hey, that's just them man, and they rock that way. Man, their soft songs were really touching live. I had never heard them before and I was just....in awe that this band could be so ... good? after all these years.
And the hard songs were fucking awesome. They're new album is pretty good. I mean, I'll probably get sick of it after hearing it on the radio a lot. But, it was nice to be exposed to some pretty good music from a band I had lost hope in 6 years ago! XD
All in all it was a great concert experience. I have a newfound respect for Linkin Park and I will be going to more concerts form now on. I don't know why I haven't already gone to a real concert. But it was a shitload of fun! :)
