I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to build a Freeze Ray without a source of Wonderflonium but maybe in this case my inability to access the original blueprints is a positive, since I may have to redesign it from the ground up to take into a lack of certain materials--and the presence of new ones.  It might be a little tricky, but I am a genius ( Read more... )

i am a genius, i have a question, i has a penny, wonderflonium, freeze ray, superheroes, no more flowers ever

Why do you want to know about heroes?

Because my nemesis is a superhero.

.... heroes aren't all alike, you know.

Well, that's why I'm asking. What are the heroes you know like?

Shouldn't you be asking about your nemesis instead?

I'm not interested in what heroes think of themselves, but what other people think of the people who in their world are labeled "heroes." Like whether they actually admire them and think they have heroic qualities, or not.

Anyway, if I was actually interested in what Captain Hammer would say he wouldn't exactly be my nemesis then, right?

I'm pretty sure all heroes are supposed to have heroic qualities. And... what's a nemesis?

Well, ok, that's definitional, but there a lots of "heroes" that I don't think are really good people at all. A nemesis is an enemy. But it's not just anyone you fight, it's someone close in ability that you match wits with multiple times--the main enemy you have. You foil each others plans and stuff.

I don't get it. How are they heroes if they're not good people?

Well Captain Hammer says he's a hero but mostly he's a big idiot who does advertisements for stuff and gives stupid speeches. And he takes credit for doing things he didn't even really do. Everybody seems to love him where I'm from and I just don't get it.

...

I guess it'd make sense if they believed him about doing that stuff.

Sometimes I guess he actually does do the things he says he does, but he's really just doing it for the glory. I can tell, even if nobody else can.

But why do you care why he does it?

Because I think people's intentions matter, not just actions and outcomes. And because I don't think he'd help people who needed it if it didn't help his own image.
