You have Tosh. I have prototype weapons that need testing and a very angry gorilla. I'd be happy to use them, but you can save me the trouble by letting your captives go. Looks like you've been fingered by others, but it may take time for them to get hard evidence--evidence I have. I'm not one of the "good guys" so I don't really care if others choose to shoot you or save you. I just want my friend back. And those other people.
I don't trust the police to handle this well. Let everyone go in the next three hours and they don't need to hear your last conversation with Tosh as recorded on her laptop. It gives you time escape or whatever. You're not my problem unless you want to be.
Take any longer and not only does that become public, but the gorilla and I come for you ourselves.
