I'm not sure. I kind of like the color red, but then I won't get to move first.

Not as far as I remember...I haven't actually played checkers in a while.

Perhaps that's just how we played it at home, then, with black going second in both chess and in checkers. That's the only way I ever remembered it.

Oh, well I know black goes second in chess.

Do you think I'm supposed to let Captain Hammer choose, since I issued the challenge? But I'm a villain anyway, I shouldn't have to play fair.

Well...perhaps you could let him choose, and then take whichever color he picks instead, to deprive him of it? If that's not villainous, I don't know what is.
