There are a lot of things in the world that I want to forget about--hungry babies, people who are sick but too poor to buy medicine, whole families that get evicted from their homes, kids who are killed before they even finish high school, animal cruelty, ( Read more... )

No, it's fine, okay? I didn't mean to unload all at once like that. Sorry for not telling you earlier, Freckles.

They usually get better. Things, I mean. Especially when they're awful, since they can't do much but get better. That's sad, though, never having anything to smile about when you were a kid. You have a lot of happiness to catch up on.

I was lucky with my parents. So many people don't have any good memories of their families... just having what I do seems like a lot in comparison. They had all of these dreams for me, and none of them were exactly what happened. I hope you're right, anyway.

S'alright...ya didn't 'ave t'tell me at all if ya didn't want to. Are ya alright though? An' yeah...things do get better. 'm lucky now, t'have all the stuff I do.

'm glad you have good memories of 'em. Even if things didn't turn out just like they planned, they'd be happy 'bout how you turned out, 'm sure.

It's kind of a dumb thing to hide. But I'm fine, really. I'm getting more fine by the day.

Thank you. You know, I think your parents would be proud of you, too. You're a good person.

[in a much colder voice than she's probably ever heard from Doll] No, I...they wouldn't care. An' I don't care what they'd think of me either, I ain't what I am cause of them.

Aw, Freckles... I'm so, so sorry. They don't matter at all. Only the family you want as your family counts.
