--avoid the being-killed thing, okay?

[Penny's voice is muffled, but it's clear enough that she's in the middle of a conversation.  She's answered by a clap of thunder and... bleating?]

Shhh... shhh. It's okay. Good lambs. Just a storm, see? You'll be fine. Dumb Bible story. We don't even know for sure that that's what it is... my money's on ( Read more... )

curse, plagues, animals are people too, it could be worse!

It's not a question of morality for you at all?

Of course it is! Killing sheep isn't moral.

And potentially allowing for the deaths of every firstborn human in the City is? Pardon me, I should have said 'moral dilemma'.

No, but that can't really happen. I mean, the plagues're only a story, and the deities can knock us off with or without sheep blood.

The 'deities' do enjoy creating rules, though. And while I agree, the plagues are only a story...the 'deities' do enjoy creating issues like this one. They can kill whomever they choose...but perhaps the ones they will choose will be the Citizens without sheep's blood on their door. Just a thought.

But what if nothing happens? They like freaking us all out and getting us to do things we don't want to do, too.

But what if it does? Do you value the life of a lamb over the life of a friend?

[Thinking about this one. Thinking... thinking...]

No. Not if the dying-without-lamb-blood is a definite thing.

It can't ever be, Penny. There's no science to it. Only the theory and the possible word of the 'deities'. I do imagine it all depends upon what one values.

It doesn't depend on values. It can't.

This whole City is just the deities messing with us, isn't it? They wouldn't really kill almost everyone here.

Really.

It seems to be your prerogative to believe the best of everyone. I am a bit surprised, though, that that extends to the 'deities'.

[Paaause. This whole conversation is making her very uncomfortable.]

They're people, too. ...Aren't they?

[It....might possibly be meant to.]

People can be responsible for some horrible things.

[What!?]

Sometimes they can surprise us, though. No one's that horrible.

[....she's too easy to tease. And the Master finds vegetarians and well. People like Penny quaint. Even if he....kind of relies on her innocence. Fun game, this.]

I hope you're right.
