Last night
Frank and Earnest (you know, that band I play in?) played in GR for the first time at Mixtape Cafe. It's the space that used to be Skelletones, where Wilkerson played a few times way back in the dizzle. It's since been sold/revamped and reinvented as a place with a stage that's way too high. The show was fine, sparsely populated, but when your local support for the touring bands are two LANSING BANDS, you take what you get. I made quick friends with Bobby, lead dude from one of the touring bands
The Promise Hero, who as a band were alright. They are the kind of super-mall-poppunky DriveThru-esque band that I would have LOVED five or six years ago, so I can't shit on them completely, but man that dude is not very knowledgable at how to act onstage. It's one thing to just have terrible stage banter and talk about "HEEEEEEEEEEEY RAISE YOUR HAND IF YOU'VE HEEEEARD OF US!"... whatever. It's ANOTHER thing to have a pedal tuner, have your guitar go out of tune, and then have to WALK OVER TO YOUR GODDAMN AMP UNPLUG YOUR CORD AND PLUG IT INTO YOUR TUNER. If you have a foot pedal, you need to have all that shit hooked up and flowing in smooooth cohesion through your rig, I mean sheesh I don't know anything about gear and even I am smarter than that! Anyway, his first attempt at tuning was unsuccessful, so he had to go to the other guitarist's tuner and use that, and by that time, it took the dude two minutes to tune his guitar and I lost interest. Oh well.
It was fun, though. I can't get too irritable about playing a show, it sure beats the hell out of work and school. The guy Ross who booked us said he'll probably have us and the Break-ups back sometime in a few months, maybe with the Plurals or the Cartridge Family or some combination of all of us with a few GR bands... he goes way back with GTG, so that's all gravy train city.
God I haven't done this in a while, the next few weeks will be scattered shots at the last few months. Be patient with me.
