So, within MINUTES of my last entry, I discovered an apartment listing on Craig's List for a place in Old Town. I sent the gentleman an e-mail expressing my interest in a home, and I received a call from Jared the landlord a little later in the day. He was going to be in the area (apparently he doesn't live in the area? I'm not quite sure) in a few minutes, so we set up an impromptu meeting and I drove over there to check out the apartment. It's fantastic! The living room is on the first floor, and then you walk up the steps to two very large bedrooms and a large kitchen, and the nicely sized shitroom. I had him e-mail me an application the next morning, gave it to him at one, and after he called my references, I received a phone call stating that I had the apartment! (He called Ben Graham to check up on my work status, and as Ben was telling me that he just got off the phone with him, I could feel my pants starting to shake with vibrating landlord goodness, ha!) My deposit was given to him the next morning, and I am moving in on the 12th.

(this really isn't a proper start for a new paragraph but that last one was getting way too big) Ian Graham and I will be on the lease living together, and (don't tell anybody but) Aymor will be in the living room to help bring down our rent a tad or two. It should be a blast! I'm on Maple Street, easy walking distance from Elderly and Uncle Sam's Record Emporium and LCC and (as he told me yesterday) one block away from this apartment my dad had when he and my mom split up. I've always vaaaaaaguely remembered this apartment - it was on the second floor and there was a tall staircase leading up to the door - but I would have never been able to place it on a mid-Michigan map. What an odd piece of serendipitiousity. (That was the one with "King of Pain", right?)

In much less exciting news, my grandfather is dying. I traveled up to Ishpeming with my dad on Friday (we're leaving in a few hours) so that we could see him and my grandmother. It's been a bit of an odd trip, to say the least... it's quite possibly the last time I'm going to get to see him alive and talk to him. He's making some jokes and talking like he always has, but he's confined to a motorized wheelchair (not a Hoveround) and groaning and yelping whenever we help him get into his bed. I walked in the door when we got here and said "Hey Grandpa, how are you?"... he replied with "Don't ask". :\ My dad and I have been able to have some nice talks though, both on the seven hour car ride up and just driving from Ishpeming to the hotel we're staying at in Marquette. Deeper talks with my dad are not incredibly common (at fault of both parties), and I welcome them whenever they take place.

I am excited to hook my computer up so that I can start trying to construct some crosswords.

So many people seem to have given up on Livejournal, what a bummer.
