"Mystery solved!"

Not much is new, so I'm just going to make a new album mention.

Coheed and Cambria's new album, which has a lengthy title and I refer to as IV, came out Tuesday.

If I'm dedicating an update to it, it has to be really good or really bad.

It's the former.

I'm not going to even attempt to analyze anything about it other than its first impressions on me. This album completes their departure from "hardcore" music and illustrates that they have perfected their own sound and like many good bands before them, blur the almighty "genre" lines that seem to be inescapable these days.

What I like most about this album is the overarching feeling it gives me as a music fan. It's the same feeling you get when you find out an amazing, groundbreaking, artistic band is also a group of down-to-earth, human individuals. The album is artistic, but approachable. Aesthetic, but not other worldly. It invites you to interpret instead of shoving its own interpretation down your throat. It can be jaw-dropping at times, but still downright fun.

Unlike their last album, they get the aesthetic, poetic stuff out of the way early and then its down to business, with just track after track with no sounds of the ocean or abstractly structured soundbytes in between to connect them.

Track 3, before its all said and done, might be one of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. And I knew that after hearing it once.

Track 4 is pure fun. It's the kind of song that just makes me wanna live life.

Track 8 might be one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. It's hard to write a song like that and deliver it without it turning sappy or cheesey.

Anyway, needless to say you have my endorsement.

Later, masturbater.
