She was all grown up now. There was no denying that. Soon she'd be a married woman, despite his protests that she was still just a girl. She was growing up, and leaving him behind. It was all happening too fast.

He gazed down at her, unable to hide the trace of sadness in his eyes. He brushed her hair back and bent down, placing a soft kiss on her forehead. "You'll always be my little girl," he murmured, "and I will always be there for you."

He watched expressionlessly as the door closed. He shouldn't be surprised. Bishop had the test results, after all, why should he stay? He turned his attention back to the girl on the table, still sobbing softly in pain. He had a job to do.

Quickly and efficiently he unhooked her from the monitors. When he was finished he looked down at her. "You're going to be all right," he said quietly. He leaned down and pressed his lips against her forehead. "I'm sorry," he whispered. Then he stepped back to let the Haitian do his job.

"Peter? Where's Han?" Another good question was where was Peter, since both he, and the tribble, had been in the living room minutes earlier.

The younger man sidled out of Bennet's bedroom with an incredibly innocent expression on his face. "Maybe he crawled away?" he said, gazing up at Bennet.

A disbelieving eyebrow quirked upwards. "He did not crawl away." Peter vouchsafed no other answer, though, so Bennet had to move past him into the bedroom.

At the foot of his bed was a shoebox filled with cottonballs, a picture of the Enterprise taped to the side. Inside was nestled the little tribble, "sleeping." He turned around and looked at Peter, who had a wide grin on his face. "You are just too adorable for words," Bennet murmured, leaning in and placing a gently kiss on the tip of Peter's nose.
