Another "gosh. I'm happy!" entry

It's been a long time since I found a song I like so well I play it more or less on repeat. Thank you shae!

Yesterday, at our local scavanging grounds (the apartments across the street from my house), chris found a loveseat. Or, more accurately, two halves of a loveseat, which independently recline and rock. We finally have the loveseat for our "master suite" (aka upstairs)! So this morning I'm enjoying my coffee, some oatmeal, and the cat freaking out in the sunbeams upstairs. I am so happy with it!

But then, I got to thinking about how much of chris and my stuff is scavanged. not that that's a bad thing, It's just somewhat funny to think how little of our (fairly decent) furniture we actually PAID for. An itemized list, room by room (by memory):

Porch:
-Wooden loveseat with cushions, found outside NWU townhouses with a "Free" sign on it.
-Redorange chair we found outside what was at one point Denny vanhorn's house.
- weird metal barchair with ugly white cushions zach was going to throw away.
- chest that allie scavanged from the art department.

Foyer:
-TIki buffet thing. Chris aquired it before we started dating.
- a rug

Living room:
- two matching 70s end tables,
- chris's 'gon (octogon shaped end table with storage below)
- ottoman his parents were going to throw away
- couch we found in South Lincoln... cushions are a bit ripped, but structurally it's AMAZING
- aqua recliner
- a lamp or two
- Soon there will be curtains from chris's mom's work

Dining Room:
- Two chairs brendan scavanged from his friend's parents'
- A set of tall candle holders
- a corner metal shelf thing
- two barstools/chairs that came with the house. This is not quite the same as scavanged, but we still didn't pay for them.
- another rug.

Kitchen:
- Dishwasher. We found it on the curb by my dad's house with a sign that said "Free! Works great! manuals inside! Please take me home!" The manual had the exact date of installation on it: May something, 1999. Unfortunately, we don't have anywhere to hook up a dishwasher, so right now it's chilling with a board ontop of it, pretending to be a counter. We hope to, in the next year or so, find somewhere to put it.

Upstairs:
- Console TV
- Bookcase
- metal bookshelves
- schooldesk
- dresser

And then when you add in all the stuff relatives gave us that they just had in storage... we paid for even less stuff. and then a bunch of the stuff we DID pay for was secondhand. I think the most expensive piece of furniture in the house that we bought would probably be either the dining room table (which we need to pay my brother for), or, newly, chris's desk. Though, Chris had a perfectly good desk at the old apartment that he had scavenged. Yeah... furniture we bought new: DVD shelf, chris's desk, my book case, ... yeah, that's about it.

In short: paying for furniture is for suckers!

Having the apartments across the street is great b/c it's a big enough complex there are constantly people moving in and out, so more or less a constant stream of useful things gettng thrown away. Next on our shopping list is a coffee table.

I see it as a good way to contribute to the enviroment, sort of. I'm saving the stuff from taking up space in a landfill, and then we're not bringing new furniture into the world. It's like adopting third world babies!... not the bit about the landfill. The other bit. Taking on pre-existing things (that otherwise would not have a good home) rather than bringing new things into existance, just because you don't want a secondhand baby. I mean couch.

I've not done anything with the wedding. Well, that's not true. I've been looking for good ceremony places, we've just not found one yet. It is a possibility we will do ceremony at chris's parents', reception at dad's.

Last night i had kind of a funny dream about wedding stuff, though. I was just sitting at a counter, at ex-mulan deli, talking to other customers while I waited. Then, It was my turn, and I talked to them about the catering I needed. That was the whole dream. It was funny itn it's mundanity. it wasn't even like I was asking about weird stuff. I was asking about, in my dream, exactly what I need, in reality. maybe it's my brain saying I should at least talk to people about it.

I also did some invitation drafts the other day

I like the last two best, but i'm not 100% sold on any of them right now. I'm also thinkin about doing a couple more simple ones. I was all for doing them myself, but Chris wanted to get them done professionally, and then brendan gave us birthday cards from this place, and I was sold. Now i just have to find out if we can afford it. Stupid things. Costing money. Yeah, looking a bit more closely at their website than i originially had it looks like it might be out of our range. :( we'll see.

Jobwise, not much is happening. Hopefully today or tomorrow chriss work will call for an interview. fingers crossed. I'm so BORED and sick of being BROKE.

oh hey, i forgot to hit post.
