When It Pours, It Should At Least Rain

Because I like the rain. Esh. What a way to kick off May. The hard drive on this cacked - but only enough so that I knew. It wouldn't boot up until I got it to the tech. Then it booted up like a charm. Bong. GAH. So I tell the guy, well, make sure it's not anything else beside the drive making the problem, then just replace it with a bigger, sexier hard drive. "Okay," he says, "But if there's a problem with the hard drive, should we replace it?" Yeesh. I love techs. I kept wanting to ask if there were any normal people there I could talk to.

And because the tech company, Cornice, mainly does industrial and corporate accounts, it took them forever to get to my computer. Or, a week and a half. Meantime, I have two older working computers, but - no keyboards. Those somehow got bundled up with the other stuff I donated a while ago.

Then Sunday - heading to Macs, the last of the old school analog electronic shops, because he only opens on the first Sunday of the month anymore - and... Car will not start. Click Click Click. Sigh. Battery's getting volts and amps across, so it's probably the starter. Yay.

I can replace a starter in any Mopar or VW vehicle you like - from before 1974. A monkey can replace the starter in those cars. But a 2002 PT Cruiser? Off to Lovely Andrew, my mechanic. He's actually a good looking man and is friendly without giving me the creeps, bonus since I don't do very well with flirty people, but mainly he's a really good mechanic.

So, yup, that's the starter dead, and a good 300 bucks down. Then the calls about my computer start. Yes, it's running its tests. For days. And then? "The drive is compromised here, here and here, we really recommend that you back it up frequently after we repair it because it does seem to be on its way out. Are you sure you wouldn't prefer a larger, sexier new drive for it?" Me: "...Yes. Yes I would."

Mind you: I was talking to the same guy that checked it in! Yeeesh! He had it written on the work order, too. But when I went to pick it up? Holy cats they had a LOT of machines back there. Which doesn't even mention their complete collection of all Macs made, from the Lisa on. All running! Haha!

And, et voila. It's good to be back.
