Unfortunately, the city encroaches when they smell money, and around ten years ago, contractors started building the cheese box half a million dollar houses, shoe horning ten onto what was one of our lots.
They didn't sell well to begin with, and clearly, that was the fault of the county neighborhood, junky and farmy and nasty. So began the new regulations. We've dutifully kept up with them all, finally getting rid of our old cars, keeping the brush down, all of that.
However.
Someone reported us as having "excessive poultry/waterfowl, including roosters/males."
This means that unless I can get a waiver from the county, I have to find a new home for Benjamin and his girls.
I'm not hopeful I can get this, because frankly, Ben is noisy, and his honking can be heard for about a block and more at night.
We're just heartbroken, as you can imagine.
You're only allowed two hens of any sort, and I can't move Ginger, she's ancient, and I'm afraid sending her on would kill her. I'm hoping I can negotiate on this seeing as they're pets, and you can keep up to five pet animals in a home.
I've found two ranches I hope will take the flock entire, they're close enough for us to visit, and both are reputable and ethical. Maybe they'd profit from posting Ben's antics. I have fifteen days to move them, I'll ask for more if I can't take them to either of those ranches.
Once they're placed, I'll definitely link up to them if there is a link.
If you can help, have any ideas, I'm all ears. Ben has been here for about as long as the regulation on poultry, but I can't prove that. This is the Development Code for our area:
