Who's Yo Daddy?

We got our two little pomeranian goslings, and Julie, the chinese goose, happened to be broody. She had no eggs, but damn it, she was brooding! So when I put the two adorable little peepers into the baby cage, all she had to say was "HISS".

Next thing I know, she's guarding the cage and insisting Ben help her in this. Ben thinks to himself, yeah, sure, we'll guard the little puff balls a while, then we'll do what I want to do, which is marching aimlessly through the yard and occasional sex.

Yeah, that went over about as well as you'd expect. Julie squawled and wing beat him until decided oh yeah, we're guarding the babies.

Later, Ben snuck off because he's got other females, yo! Julie hissed at him, but ha! A mangoose is the wind baby, you can't hold him down!

Lucy wasn't having ANYTHING to do with him. Period. She saw him with the babies. Forget it. She stalked off to go sit with the dog. Becky absolutely ran to the front yard and skulked under the juniper bush.

So Ben crawled back to Julie. After another brisk domestic quarrel, they settled down to watching goslings.

During the day, Ben would periodically leave the 'nest' and go looking for his carefree bacheloring. Nope. Lucy shuns him magnificently, and Becky hides.

It got worse. He went to try and drive Becky from her hiding place to the water and she squawled and wing beat him until he went running, wailing, for Julie. Why? Because Becky has a clutch of eggs hidden under the juniper and she's broody.

Where the hell she got the eggs, I have no idea, they'd stopped laying (I thought!) a month ago, but there's five in her nest. So as long as she's eating and drinking, she can brood the eggs, though I doubt much there's anything in there.

So gone are Ben's carefree Sultan of Goose days. The girls have pwned him thoroughly. I'll put the goslings down on the ground while I'm cleaning their cage and they swarm around him, and while HE thinks "let's go to the water hole", Julie has entirely other ideas and woe to him if he walks away leading them.

The goslings seem to think it's hilarious when mama beats on papa.
