Today I got up bright and early (well, at least early) for paleosols lab. We went back to the site we went to last week and finished describing our trenches and then dug a new one. In this one you could see the soil formed before the flood, which was cool. I also found another red velvet mite, which was happy. My camera is definitely on its way out, though. Lately it's been turning on with a white screen, but not for too long. Halfway through using it today it white screened and the images never came back again. I'm pretty sure it still takes photos, but it's nice having the screen to see what you took :/ Plus everyone seems to have come to the consensus that it sounds more like a raptor than a camera when it opens up - if it decides to open. I'll have to turn it on tomorrow and see if the screen has returned. Regardless, I need to get a replacement for it sooner or later. It was a Canon Elph, and I enjoyed it, so I may get another, though a waterproof camera would be fun, too. Something smallish anyway.
After getting all dirty and sandy, went to sequence strat, which was okay. We looked at some seismic stuff, some of which seemed pretty clear and some seemed kind of hazy. I knew what the various regions were to be interpreted as and why, but I wanted to see more shapes in the fluvial successions. After sequence strat, I headed over to the fieldhouse to pick up tickets for the Iowa State football game this Saturday. I'm excited. Now I can wear my new KU shirt and blue ribbon (maybe red, too), though I may check into getting a KU long sleeved shirt of some kind, since it will be nippy. However, if not, I can wear my blue fleece, though not quite the right shade. They had some sweatshirts I kind of liked for $20 at one bookstore, I'll have to see if they are still there.
Later in the day I went to the grant writing session. Though I have not begun to look at grants, it seemed helpful for writing my proposal, too, and just thinking about wording the aims of my projects. After that I came home and napped from about 5:30-9:30. Oh well.
