So yesterday I went for a kite-flying trip with a few of my friends, and Janet's little brother. Met them at Tampines Mart in the morning first to buy our kites. Surprisingly, there's an SKP store there. I honestly didn't know that.
After getting our kites, we headed to the interchange where we boarded the train to Marina Bay station. However, when we got out, it started to rain cats and dogs, which served as an annoying wet blanket. We had no choice but to head back to City Hall - besides, Janet wasn't even there yet. We then had a quick lunch at Raffles City and then met Janet there, too. Tried our luck by going back to Marina Bay and miraculously, the rain stopped.
Here's where the real drama began. We actually thought we could walk to Marina Barrage. Because we thought that since we could see Marina Bay Sands from that place, the barrage would be somewhere near there. However, we were so wrong. Sure, we walked all the way to Marina Bay Sands, only to end up at the concealed back of that hotel. We actually got caught in a dead end at the construction site behind the hotel, and it was horrible. There were empty drink cans and bottles everywhere, and a drain cover which actually didn't really serve as one... there was water spewing out of it like nobody's business. The sand was muddy, and there were pieces of scrap metal lying around, be it in ribbons or in bars. It was a terrible ordeal. We were aiming to get to the staircase which hopefully took us nearer to our destination. But in the end, the stairs led to the gaping expressway. So much for our hopes.
After a lot of jumping, screaming, and apprehension, we managed to get out of that hellish "trap" and set foot on normal ground again. You could pretty much say that we went hiking. Tackled so many obstacles! Instead of heading to Marina Barrage, we went to the Marina Booby Trap.
As we were walking through the hotel to another entrance to take the bus, I realised just how amazing superficiality can be. Fancy such a flamboyant hotel having a dump as a construction site. However, the service of the workers were okay, except for this woman who secretly took a picture of us trying to get to the stairs at the dead end. Not only did she not lend a helping hand, she just assumed that we were trespassing.
In the end, we hailed cabs which took us to Marina Barrage. Initially, our cab driver didn't know how to get there. But we still got there in the end, and we still managed to fly our kites. Everyone got tired after a while and it started raining again, so we just headed back to the city. But the outing wasn't really a flop. In fact, we still managed to snap a few shots:
