Killer Science quiz

Today was great! Mainly because I skipped half of the lessons today thanks to the science quiz I attended at Victoria Junior College.

The first place we headed to when we reached VJC was the Lecture Theatre, where we confirmed our attendance. After that, we went to the canteen to kill some time. Have I mentioned that I love the canteen at VJC? It's really cool albeit a little old. The canteen sells a wide variety of stuff at very reasonable prices.

On to the science quiz. For the preliminary round, we had to answer 30 MCQs - 10 for each Science subject. It definitely wasn't a piece of cake. Trust me, never enter the exam hall unprepared. Because we had literally zilch preparation (besides the crash course on "Electromagnetism" Mr Tan gave us right before we headed for VJC), all of us were baffled when we opened the question paper. Furthermore, it wasn't until when I was seated in the lecture theatre that I realised all the Chemistry questions tested were about Electrochemistry & Redox Reactions (apparently, the other schools prepared notes for their students beforehand).

As a result of poor preparation, I couldn't answer most of the Chemistry questions.  Almost every question mentioned "reduction potential". Obviously, I didn't even know what that term meant. The Physics questions were nasty, too. Every single one was about Electromagnetism and because I only had fundamental knowledge of that topic, I wasn't bright enough to answer all the questions. The Biology questions were OK, but tricky. I wasn't even aware that there are 2 types of diabetes. I guess I attained a negative score. :S Goes to show how dumb I am. :P

While the results were being tallied, the VJC students gave us a tour of the school. I really enjoyed being in the campus. We went to the library, hall, courts and also up the tree-houses. The school's track & field looks great. We also visited the science labs. The room where the VJC Chemistry Society conducts their activities is amazing. Especially the murals outside the room. There's also a unique sundial which resembles the structure of a complex molecule. I wonder how it feels like to be a student there.

We had some sort of buffet at a lounge in the school, and then we went back to the theatre to receive the results. Obviously my school wasn't shortlisted because there were only 4 seats in the finals. And obviously all the branded schools occupied them. Oh well, I'll just take it as a learning experience. We remained to watch the finals, and in the end RI won by a huge margin. RVHS and RI was neck-on-neck at first, but RVHS fell short during the buzzer rounds. Learned quite a lot during the finals, anyway. :)

Collected the certificates and took a picture with the Guest-of-Honour, some Physics professor from NUS. After all that, Mr Tan treated us to drinks from the canteen, and I got myself milk green tea. It tasted good, anyway. Hahah. Thanks Mr Tan. :)

When I got back to school I met Winifred and we stayed for night study. Got waffles for dinner, and Jun Jie was still being the chatterbox he is. We studied at the tables outside the staff room so it was quiet. Everyone else was either in the library or the canteen. Although there were distractions, I'm glad I could focus. Not that I'll definitely do well for tomorrow's test, though.

The principal saw us studying, and he had a quick chat with us. As usual, he emphasised on the importance of getting into a good JC. He told us a funny story about a toothpaste watch too. -_- It was great being encouraged by him, anyway.

VJC/TJC, here I come... :)

p.s. OMG I didn't know Taylor Swift stands 178cm tall. That's 3cm taller than my current height. It's really unbelievable. I thought she'd be around 165cm tall or something. A Raudhah-turned-country singer? :)
