The Artcade a few weeks ago went awesome and it has started to get some good press. GameSetWatch has a
particularly detailed review of the event and they had this to say about Night of the Cephalopods:
Night of the Cephalopods. This is probably one of the most exciting titles, because it does something that I can't think of any other games doing-well, other than sports games, anyway-running commentary.
Sounds stupid, but as you play this Lovecraft inspired tentacle horror, an (impressive!) narrator describes what is happening on screen with macabre glee. I cannot establish how amusing this is and how ripe with potential it feels. Seriously. I eagerly await the point where the download is available, as it sadly isn't yet. - mathewk
I was really encouraged by feedback from people who played the game at the Artcade and now by this GameSetWatch press. NotC was an odd idea, but one that I thought could be fun and do something new with story attached to very simple traditional gameplay. From what I've heard from people so far it looks like I've succeeded.
Oh and I've also submitted NotC to the Independent Games Festival, it's got a lot of very very solid competition, so I'm not holding my breath but it would be fantastic if it got in as a finalist.
I still have a fair bit of programming to do before the official Indie Games Incubator launch on the 13th when the game becomes downloadable and I'm hoping it continues to make a good impression once it's out and more people get a chance to play it.
