Maybe it's just me

Not to incur the wrath of people suffering in the heat, but I think this air conditioning thing really isn't for me.

My place has central air conditioning that I'd never used until this week when the combination of noise from all the neighbours' air conditioners in my otherwise quiet area and no wind for the cross breeze that usually keeps the place comfortable convinced me to give it a go.

I'm giving up.

I've had such bad sleep ever since and, even on the highest thermostat setting, the air that blows is so cold that I find the whole thing pretty unpleasant.

It's not that I don't feel the heat, I do. I just don't much mind being hot. And I sleep better in a humidity induced coma than the light half-sleep I get reaching for the blankets every time the air conditioning comes back on.

And then there's the smell. There isn't any. Half the pleasure of summer is the smell of fresh air. This smells like the crisper drawer in the fridge.

I've had the windows open in the evenings to take the chill off, and open in the morning to change the air. Tonight I'm going to go back to sleeping with the windows open because I'm desperate for a good night's sleep now.

At this rate, I think I'll just let it run occasionally at a high setting during the day so that it's cool when I come home in the evening. I usually close the windows for the day in high heat anyway but most of the upstairs windows don't have blinds/curtains to keep the sun from building the heat up inside.

Anyway - experiment tried, experiment faltering. They're announcing another scorcher today so I have at least one more day/night to find a happy formula.
