18m word explosion

At her 18m appointment I showed her doctor the 15 or so words she used. They were simple ones like mama, daddy, hi, yes, that, thank you, baby, owie, uh oh, diaper, peepee, poopoo, etc. I said I was worried that she didn't have more and wouldn't use words to communicate what she exactly wanted, instead just pointing and saying "that." he wasn't concerned but told me to make her use her words. I had been trying that for weeks and it resulted in a confused, frustrated, and sad toddler. I did it again the next day and made a big deal about it. Suddenly it clicked in her head what I wanted! Holy cow. She's learning words SO fast and really using them without prompting! I'm THRILLED. She's able to communicate so much better and her days are less frustrating. I'd say on average she's picking up at least 5-10 new words every day. The first day it was words like swing, up, bird, tree, dirt, rock, and stick because we were naming things outside. She's also picked up more food words like juice, waffle, breakfast, orance, applesauce, bread, more and snack. She plays with her Little People zoo all the time and now will say zoo, bear, lion, elephant, gorilla, truck, polar bear, puppy and of course make all the corresponding sounds :)

It's so exciting to see her learn a new word and then how proud she is when she uses it and we understand! Yesterday she proudly walked around touching every wall and proclaiming "wall" or "plug!". Or the day before when she was walking around the backyard identifying dirt and sticks. Today it was all about birds in the trees and saying cheep cheep at them :)

Anyway, I was trying to keep a list and it's just impossible anymore so I thought I'd document a little bit of it before I forget.
