Smallville 8.01

I'm feeling mixed emotions about the premiere...

Things I liked:

-Clark. Did you see him? If worse came to worse, I could mute the television and just look at him.

-Clark trying to break himself out of a Russian work camp. I liked that he wasn't just waiting to be rescued. Yes, he did fail, but it was still kind of good to see him try.

-Oliver. Honestly, I've always kind of liked Oliver, but this episode made me actually want to see more of him. He's still not Lex (not even close...) but I did enjoy the scenes between him and Clark.

-Tess. I actually liked her, at least for now. If her back-story is really bad, that will probably stop, but in last night's episode I sort of viewed her as trying to imitate Lex because he was pretty much her idol. I know a lot of people found that annoying, but I thought it was kind of endearing. I mean, it's about time someone liked Lex. I find it refreshing that she basically liked him enough to want to be just like him! :)

-Chloe's new power. At least, I like it better than her old one. We'll see if it works out.

-Clark's refusal to give up, even though he didn't have powers. It proves that his potential to be a hero doesn't hinge on his powers--it depends on him.

-Dinah's suggestion that Clark should get a more formfitting costume. I approve. Whole-heartedly. :D

Things I didn't like:

-How could the serum made from Moira control Oliver? He's not a meteor freak.

-Lex and Clark were literally in each other's arms when the S7 ended. How did they get separated? We were offered the explanation of an avalanche, but we saw the Fortress falling down on top of them--that would bury them, not create an avalanche that would sweep them out of harm's way. I'm really confused about that.

-How did Clark get in the Russian work camp? What did he owe the man money for?

-How does Chloe finding cell phone numbers immediately allow the members of the JLA to be found?

-Chimmy. You have to be kidding me. The writers can't possibly expect us to care about a Chloe/Davis/Jimmy triangle. That's really pathetic, and if those scenes actually happen, I may just have to make my snack runs during those times instead of commercials.

-If the Manhunter lost his powers, how did he get back to Earth with Clark? Did Clark bring him? And why did the sun restore Clark's powers? I thought when Jor-El took them, they were gone, sun or not…

-No Lex. I miss him already. It's going to be a long season without him.

-The flashback to people Clark loves, which includes his parents and Lana. COME ON. LANA??!! *gags* Get over it writers.

-The lack of explanation for why Chloe's powers changed.

-The overall lack of explanations for everything. I. Want. Explanations.
