Freia is acting punky, and I'm a bit worried. In the last 2-3 weeks, she's really dropped in the amount of food she's willing to eat. Before she would eat a whole wet can of a food a day (half in the morning, half in the evening). Now she'll eat a half can at most--a quarter at a time. She'll meow for food, but when I put it down, she doesn't look that interested, or takes a few nibbles before wandering off. She will come back and pick at it later, so it does get eaten eventually, but she doesn't sit down and tuck in like she used to.
I've tried tempting her with heating the food (no go, she wouldn't touch it) or adding cat treats (only occasionally works). She's already on prescription urinary food, so I can't exactly swap it out for something else. She's also curling up in a loaf/half loaf a lot more, and generally doesn't tend to want to move around much.
On the other hand, she is still eating, and she still comes over for pettings. She doesn't really avoid being touched like she would if she were really sick. I've poked a little at her mouth, and she didn't react like anything was sore (just the usual 'get your fingers away from my mouth, human' reaction). So I don't know if this is something I should take her in for (and stress her out even more), or if this is just the normal slow decline of an aging kitty (16 going on 17). :/
She's always been ridiculously healthy all her life, I guess I got spoiled. Now she's actually starting to show signs of her age, and I worry. :(
