Yellow Island Trip

I think I could make a game out of the first photo-spot the hummingbird! Got a last minute chance last Sunday to go on a charter boat trip out to a Nature Conservancy preserve in the San Juans, called Yellow Island. It was tiny, but beautiful-the wildflowers were in full bloom, and there were rufus hummingbirds everywhere! And yes, all three pictures are of the same bird-it’s amazing how poufy they can get when they perch, and then sleek back down into lean mean flying machines the minute they take off. :D

I plonked my butt down on the trail and pretended I was a flower for about 20 minutes to actually get some good shots of this female. No males, sadly-they’re prettier, but they weren’t willing to hold still. Plus I took tons of other pics of all the lovely flowers-haven’t had a chance to process them yet, but hopefully soon!
