2012 in Review

Because Jazz "made" me. Heh.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you'd never done before?
Nursed psychiatric patients, mended fences, oh yeah and GAVE BIRTH TO A HUMAN BEING OMG!

2. Did you keep your New Years' Resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I even made any! Other than "feed the baby when it comes out" ;)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
I suppose I'm sufficiently close to myself, eh? ;) Also my cousin Jocelyn, my SIL Stefanie, and Eric's got two cousins whose wives just had babies. Oh yes, and all my "Due in March 2012" mamas on the Ravelry support group I joined. Multitudes of wee ones!

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully no.

5. What countries did you visit?
Durrrr...dis one?

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Time to knit! And more sleep. And sanity.

7. What date from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
March 8th - Cole's birthday!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Finishing my year after just having a baby. Also, kicking postpartum depression in the taint and telling it to fuck off. Third best would probably be getting my blue belt!

9. What was your biggest failure?
I am not a failure. Not as a wife, not as a mother, and not as a person.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Mental illness, yes. Physical illness? Well, I had a few colds and that nasty-ass flu, but those were thankfully over quickly enough. As for injury, I think passing a baby through my nether bits counts.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Cole's crib! And all the cloth diapers. OK, and maybe the new washer and dryer.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Stealing Dani's answer!
So many people. Pretty much if you are a friend of mine, you've probably done something that I think is worth celebrating. :) In fact, I wish I could throw you all a huge party and we could all be there!

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
Mostly just random jerks who thought they were being funny when they were usually being assholes.

14. Where did most of your money go?
School, and new bebeh!

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Being a new mama

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?
"I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz. It's mine and Cole's "song" because it was always on the radio when we were in the car together. Also, "Glad You Came" by The Wanted was on constantly the week he was born, and I'm thinking of getting the line "My universe will never be the same" tattooed on my foot, with the constellation Pisces and Cole's birthdate.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? Happier in a lot of ways, though there was a lot of sadness as I worked through the PPD. The important thing is, I'm better now!
ii. thinner or fatter? Since I'm not carrying an 8 lb 2 oz cannonball around anymore, definitely thinner ;) I only have 5 lbs left to lose, according to the digital scale (old analog scale says baby weight is gone though).
iii. richer or poorer? Financially poorer, but richer in that my life is full of joy. I wish I could pay my mortgage with baby giggles, though...

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Enjoying Cole's newborn days.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Lying in bed, ignoring the crying and pretending Cole was a girl.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent it with friends and family! It was great because it was Cole's first. I took a crapton of pictures.

21. There was no 21.
Nope, world's still here.

22. Did you fall in love in 2012?
With my son, yes!

23. How many one-night stands?
After nigh-on 3 months without sex, it FELT like a one-night stand the first time we got frisky after the baby was born. Hey-yo!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Game of Thrones, Dexter, Criminal Minds, Alcatraz (BOOO they cancelled it!), The Walking Dead, Revolution.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
A somewhat-wise hobbit once told me one shouldn`t hate. I disagree with a lot of the things he says but this one stuck.

26. What was the best book you read?
Probably the GoT books. I kind of had limited reading opportunities.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Mumford & Sons

28. What did you want and get?
A BABY!

29. What did you want and not get?
A girl baby. Ah well. It is awfully fun making them. We will try again eventually.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
The Hobbit and Skyfall.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 25 and I got rear-ended on Lasalle Blvd. The looks on the perpetrators faces when I got out of the car, clutching my big belly, was hilarious.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Knowing I was having a boy before the SURPRISE PENIS! would have probably headed off a lot of that PPD crap.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
For the first three months - anything that I could fit my fat pregnant ass into. Ever since then, spit-up or drool seems to be a permanent accesory.

34. What kept you sane?
Eric, my therapist, and happy pills!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Hmm. I had no idea there was a world outside changing bums and breastfeeding. My bad.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Stealing this one - Rape culture, the 'Idle no more' protests, and oh, probably a lot more I could go one for a while.

37. Who did you miss?
Some people I should, some people I shouldn't.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Anne Marie

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012:
I am an amazing mother.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Just becayse it burns doesn`t mean youre gonna die,
You gotta get up and try, try, try.
