Because I am too lazy to type it twice.
I've been pretty sick for the past week. It's been running the whole gamut, from drippy throat to runny nose to sneezing, etc. I think I'm on the tail end of it, but at the moment I can't talk because my throat has been kicked around so badly. I've been taking big naps every day, from 1-3 hours. Most of my energy is totally zapped. *sigh* No fun.
Sasha came and visited from Wednesday to Saturday, and we had a blast. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get stuff done or that I would not be a good host, but she assured me I was and was very appreciative. She slept in Robin's room and hung out with her when I was in class. We went out "clubbin" with Shanelle, Sarah, Inteema, Patsy, and Mar on WEDNESDAY night... brought a couple tissues to keep my runny nose from getting out of hand. She was gunna leave Friday afternoon but we couldn’t find her keys for 5 hours, so she stayed the night. It was the longest time we'd ever spent together, and I think it did a lot for building our friendship.
This weekend was the O-Staff retreat. We left Saturday morning and took school vans/SUVs to Camp Whittier, which is about 30 mins south. The camp was sort of a little wilderness escape, and had a pool, dining hall, etc. We did a whole bunch of team building stuff - games, personality exercises, sharing about ourselves, talking about our goals and how to achieve them, diversity discussions, etc. On past "team building" retreats (like for ASB) some of the exercises were well-intentioned, but not very effective. I thought everything we did this weekend really helped a lot for establishing ourselves as a staff. The people are amazing, and I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone. It was tons of fun. Plus I got paid $70 for it. We got back Sunday at 3:30, and I slept till 6. Every day I get more excited for this job.
This weekend my film club did their shoot. It turned out to be a total disaster. Apparently the people who they got the camera from told them how to load the film incorrectly, so the camera was eating the film for a long time. Then they discovered it would only shoot a minute at a time without having to be reset, so a lot of things they thought they had didn't even get on film. Then one of the actors (the 10 year old boy) got heatstroke. That was day one. Sunday, the camera broke entirely. So we don't even know if we got ANYTHING on film, and at most we'd have about 1/4 of the movie. With the amount of time we have left, we won't be able to finish it. We had everything there last weekend - actors, makeup artist, a camera, a car, etc. - we had been planning this weekend forever. It would be impossible to get everything together again. We brainstormed what to do last night... we may end up shooting a short short (like 1 min) of a little musical or something, but we might end up just not doing Reel Loud. It was a huge disappointment. Max won’t even talk about it.
K, I'm gunna go take a nap.
