A survey in honour of invisible illness week going around and I've found it very enlightening to read these surveys. Hopefully Draco will fill this out as well.
1. The illnesses I live with are: Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (though it's fairly mild), Conduct Disorder (a good percentage of prison inmates have this...btw, before you're 18 if you have this it's called "Oppositional Defiant Disorder), impaired kidney function (though not really an illness, more of a chronic symptom of a previous illness), Late Onset Insomnia (a convenient way of saying "I'm lucky if I'm asleep by 3 am). Oh, and I may be Bipolar (I'm afraid to find out so I've yet to get tested for it)
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year: ADHD, ODD and the illness that impaired my kidneys- 6 years old. The bipolarity and OCD were hinted at when I was 15.
3. But I had symptoms since: the kidney impairing illness I've had since I was born...it started as a birth defect.
4. The biggest adjustment I've had to make is: Controlling my mouth (Conduct Disorder and ADHD) and writing shit down because I'm extremely forgetful (ADHD)
5. Most people assume: that I have ADD (they're mostly right...they just forget the H)
6. The hardest part about mornings is: waking up
7. My favorite medical TV show is: I don't like medical tv shows
8. A gadget I couldn't live without is: my cell phone, my laptop, my video games, my television (I'm so gadget-centric)
9. The hardest part about nights is: my insomnia...like I said I'm lucky if I can get to sleep by 3am
10. Each day I take: I don't take medication...I'm a homeopath...or else i just suck it up
11. Regarding alternative treatments, I: prefer them to pharmaceuticals.
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness and a visible one, I would choose: I guess I prefer having an invisible one...but sometimes having people think you're just not paying attention or don't care can get a little old
13. Regarding working and career: I can't hold a job and I'm constantly flunking or getting kicked out of classes...
14. People would be surprised to know: that I get suicidally depressed...most people know the jumpy, talkative, happy seeming me
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality is: I don't have a new reality...I've always been this way
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness was: hold a job...and I'm still questioning that
17. The commercials about my illness: generally suck
18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed: how should I know? I was diagnosed when I was 6
19. It was really hard to give up: the desire to have kids...(more because of the guilt than from the actual desire...I really can't stand kids)
20. A new hobby I've taken up since my diagnosis is: well, all of my hobbies were taken after my diagnosis...what 6 year old has hobbies?
21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again, I would: lol...what 6 year old feels normal? What's again? I've never been or felt normal. I guess feeling abnormal is normal for me...lol...conundrumsville
22. My illness has taught me: the value of seeking help from others
23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say (about my illness) that gets under my skin is: That it's just bad parenting or an excuse or made up...
24. But I love it when people: I'll agree with Alabastard and say I love it when people give me the benefit of the doubt
25. My favorite motto, scripture, quote that gets me through tough times is: "Awww...huggles" (that's straight from Luna)
26. When someone is diagnosed I like to tell them: sell your extra meds...they're worth like $20 a pill
27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is: how much discrimination people have against people who aren't like them
28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn't feeling well was: take care of me but at the same time leave me alone to rest
29. I'm involved with Invisible Illness Week because: Awareness...invisible illnesses are hard to deal with because a lot of people have a "if I can't see it than it doesn't exist" sort of attitude
30. The fact that you read this list makes me feel: Happy that you care
