Finally bought a new lappy. Feeling hardcore like Strong Bad getting a new compy after his previous compy explodes epically. Getting used to it. It has a much better media player than my previous one. Much better listening to music and watching youtube. Night and day.
With the new lappy, I can finally get back to writing. SO much has happened in a short amount of time. Visited South Carolina (for Jeff Sweet's wedding reception), Pennsylvania (for the Ohio State/Penn State game), and had some immediate family happenings (most of which won't be talked about here publically).
South Carolina was amazing. Def should have flown (it's a 10 hour drive to Charleston speeding and taking no extra breaks outside of gas), but saved a lot of money doing so. Reconnected BIG time with Jeff and his amazing family, including his extended family. Their family was UBER excited to see me and catch up with me. Jeff's family adopted me for the weekend and my changed my last name to Duncan-Sweet over the course of my visit. His wife Martha is long entrenched in South Carolina and 90% of the people that were there were there for Martha, so anyone there on Jeff's behalf was considered close family. Like it was when I was in India for Bobby and Sophie's wedding/reception, they did everything they could do make me feel like family. It was a wonderful feeling and one that I desperately needed. The Sweet family had "adopted" me in high school at one point because I was so close with Jeff and I was always visiting their house, walking through the Fosselman's backyard to get over to Jeff's place. When I would go out with their family, people would assume I was part of their family. The only give-away was that I had dark brown eyes and their family has bright blues. I was over the moon the entire time I was there. SO happy to catch back up with my adopted family =). Martha fits in with her new last name. Such a thoughtful, fun, caring soul. Jeff did good and he seems incredibly happy. Didn't get enough 1-on-1 time with him to catch up, but I knew going into this that his attention was going to be everywhere else and I was fine with it. We both know the status of our friendship and I know we'll have plenty of time for 1-on-1 later. Funny thing is that just like how things are with my brother, Tommy, & Bobby, as soon as we get together, it doesn't matter where either of us are in life, we're just right back to where we were when we saw each other last... like time had stayed still. I love that so much. Planning on getting together with Jeff, Martha, and some friends next summer for a short vacation half-way. Talking about whitewater rafting on the New River in West Virginia, which the 3 of us have done individually before, but there's nothing like it. Looking extremely forward to seeing the Sweets again =)
Could end up seeing Mr. & Mrs. Sweet this weekend. My father and I are going to the Ohio State/Michigan State game in East Lansing this weekend. The elder Sweets moved back to Grand Rapids, so they'll be a 45 minute drive away and I'm super excited to see them again. Also very excited to see the game. Should be the game of the year in the Big Ten regular season, as well as a potential playoff game for getting into the College Football Playoff. There are some great botanical gardens nearby there and my father knows all the great spots to stop on the way up there. If we go through Toledo, we'll be stopping for grub at Uncle John's Pancake House. Or Famous Dave's. Or Geno's.
Last weekend, went to Happy Valley with my mom to take in the Ohio State/Penn State game. Big time bucket list item. Wanted to go to a game at Camp Randall (Wisconsin), the Big House (that state up north), and Beaver Stadium (PSU). 3-for-3 now. Game was MUCH closer than anyone predicted, but wow, what an atmosphere. There are times I've heard the Horseshoe louder, but those folks are so organized. They know exactly what they have to do to make that as extreme a home field advantage as they can, and they do their job extremely well. Their fans drove their team, without a doubt. Bucks made a lot of mistakes, which kept this game much closer than it ever should have been, but PSU did what they had to do. And very well could have won that game given more mistakes on the Bucks end. If they can get an offense to match their defense, they'll be a force to reckon with not just in the B1G, but nationally. They've got the right head coach leading them and I think they'll get there sooner rather than later.
Hoping to get to visit Vienna, Austria later this winter to visit Bobby. I have some money that I've been saving since I got back from India and got my new A/C unit paid for in full. This is my one chance to do this before Bobby gets back to the states. I can't wait to see B. I miss him so much. Looking forward to having Bobby so close once he finally gets back to the states. It'll only be a 7-8 hour car trip instead of a 6+ hr flight (depending on where he's living).
Lots of family stuff going on. One thing I can talk about publically is that we lost our cat Ben to kidney failure last week. It was something we were expecting as of a month ago, but I've kept mum on it. He lost a lot of weight, which was upsetting to watch happen so slowly, but he didn't suffer. He was so stoic about everything. Acted like normal up until the very end. Still cuddled with me in bed every time I fell asleep at my parents' house. Still fetched the mousey. I've never known such a smart, cool feline in all my life and his presence in my life will be missed endlessly in the Miller household. Sleep tight, homie. Can't wait to see you again.
Feeling tired. Need sleep for another big Monday coming up. Should be updating this again shortly. Until then, give your favorite cat a hug and tell them you love them, and don't do anything that I wouldn't do.
