More My Girl ownage

OMG. I've been watching more My Girl but with everything going on in my life, I'm only able to squeeze in an ep. or two each day, but it's very very great and I love it. And I'm very excited that birdofprey09 is now watching, as it will only increase the levels of squee for MG!

There were so many great parts, some many lovely lovely scenes. I have completely fallen for this OTP in insane, insane ways. Because, despite all the lying and the things that she has seen as a result of the way that she grew up, she is this incredibly innocent, idealistic, childish little girl who really needs someone to look after her - which is something she has never really had. And I think that's part of the reason lying to the family is so hard for her - these people really do love her and are very protective/caring of her and she doesn't want them to be, because it's going to be so hard for her when the lie is all over. And Gong-chan... he's mature and responsible and a little too serious, but not broken as so many dorama leads are. If Yoo-rin never entered his life, he'd be fine and would probably have lived a moderately happy life; but once he meets her, and gets to know her and starts to fall in love with her, he NEEDS her, even if doesn't yet understand why. She's a light, a joy, that is missing from his life, that he doesn't know is missing until its there. OMG, there's one scene where she's all drunk and climbs a ladder to the top of a Christmas tree to pull down the star, and she's standing at the top of the ladder looking down at him, and it's just such a lovely scene, with the way he's so worried she's going to fall but also completely BLINDED by how young and innocent and almost... sparkly she seems in that moment (which then becomes ROFLMAO funny as she falls and he slow-mo catches her, lol). So great.

I love the LOOK on his face when his secretary informs him that Yoo-rin's father was in Seoul and she'd had to pay the 'compensation' to get him out of jail. Because in that moment, he feels incredibly guilty for the fight they had later, but also, as you see him driving frantically to find her (btw, how did he know where she'd be? meh, minor plot holes don't really bother me, this series is THAT good), he's bouncing back and forth between INCREDIBLE guilt and happy relief (because, now that he knows the truth, she can come back and continue to be his 'cousin'). And when he gets there, she's crying and frantically looking for her father, and he's totally unsure about what to do, because he's never seen her so upset and sad, so he just grabs her and holds her and Hope is a goner.

Then, she's all sad, so she is sitting getting drunk, and Jeong-woo shows up and is sitting with her and it's all lovely because he's so great, even though he knows she's in love with Gong-chan. So he has the waitress/bartender answer her cell phone when he knows it's Gong-chan calling and tell him where to pick her up and leaves. And he shows up, and that fantastic scene at the tree happens...

A lot of other stuff happens, but I love how jealous he gets whenever he find out that Yoo-rin and Jeong-woo have been together. At first, it's all disguised as "don't drink around him, he's a player" but then it becomes so blindingly obvious to everyone BUT the two of them. HEE, and I love the scene where the grandfather asks Gong-chan if what he thinks about Jeong-woo and Yoo-rin getting together, and he's all "..... uh, she's not his type" because he can't even tolerate the thought of them, and the grandfather is instantly enraged, thinking that Gong-chan doesn't think she's pretty and makes him admit that she is... so great, and totally cute with the awkward "she's pretty" with the thumb's up sign. HEE.

And the snow globe... I love that he's always looking and hoping for the next day to snow so he can give it to her, and when it finally happens he makes plans with Yoo-rin so he can give it to her (because it's her birthday), but then Sae-hyun interferes and ends up coming along and he's visibly disappointed. And when he does give it to her, he kinda just thrusts it all her (typical boy, all embarassed so acts gruff) but is pleased by how she is thrilled with it. I like how snow becomes their bond, because it's the one thing he knows about her that they can share that isn't part of the lie to his family, to them, they know that it's because it's her "birthday" - which is something they can't tell his family, so it has a secret importance that only the two of them can share. So great.

I have a lot of hatred for Sae-hyun. She knows that Yoo-rin is Gong-chan's cousin, she doesn't know about the lie, yet she is so jealous of her and acts like a selfish little jerk. She gets so jealous when she finds out that Yoo-rin changed Gong-chan's ringtone as part of a joke between the two of them, and opens it to change it (because it makes him smile, remembering it, every time the phone rings and she CAN'T STAND THAT), and then sees the pic of Yoo-rin on the phone and is CRAZY jealous. And when she gets all pouty about having to keep her relationship secret because of Yoo-rin being there and then goes and tries to guilt her into leaving. Which Yoo-rin totally plays into her, and Gong-chan is really mad when he finds out.

And then he goes to meet her, thinking that she is going to tell him that she's going to leave (which she is) and before he goes into the elevator to meet her, he's standing outside, steeling himself for what she's going to say. I love this scene so very very much. He's flipping the phone open to look at the pic of her, telling himself that he's going to let her go, that he's not going to let her go, that he should let her go, that he DOESN'T WANT TO LET HER GO. Then she comes out, and he tells her that he knows what she's going to say, and it's alright, she's free to leave.

Bah. But then, other stuff happens, and he sneakily manages to keep her there, by purposely delaying their announcement that she would be "going back to her father in Japan" until after his aunt announces she's getting married, which means that Yoo-rin can't leave, she has to be there for the wedding, and he's so happy and pleased with himself and relieved. At this point, I don't think he realizes that he's in love with her and how important she's become in his life. He thinks that she's just become a part of the family, almost like his real cousin, and he doesn't want to lose that. It's only later, when he starts getting so jealous of Jeong-woo as the grandfather keeps trying to arrange opportunities for the two of them to hook up (while he's in the hospital, he calls Jeong-woo to come see him, so that he'll take Yoo-rin home and tells him not to be an idiot and to take her out for food... which Jeong-woo does, but because he's amazing and knows how Yoo-rin feels, he calls Gong-chan to come to the movie with them - which he does, standing up his girlfriend, who totally deserves it, the selfish jerk), and when he sees her in the outfit she's going to be wearing to the musical (which the grandfather set up as another opportunity to get Jeong-woo and Yoo-rin together, without Yoo-rin's knowledge) and he totally thinks she's pretty in it, but is afraid of Jeong-woo seeing her in it, and is all "you're not pretty" and she's disappointed by it.

But then, they end up spending the night together anyway, having given their tickets away (Yoo-rin to Sae-Hyun b/c she thinks Gong-chan will be going and is upset when he told her she wasn't pretty and that it will be better for him and his girlfiend to go anyway, and Gong-chan gave his ticket to Jeong-woo as per the grandfather's orders) and it's so pretty. They finally go to the 63 building, which they'd tried twice before but he kept having to cancel (b/c of Sae-Hyun), and she's so thrilled, like a little kid on Christmas day. She said that it was something she always wanted to do, because it was a school trip she wasn't able to go on because her and her father had had to leave town quickly because of something he'd done, and also, once she'd saved enough money to go but her father took it, and it's so sad that something as simple as visiting this building is a dream come true for her, which only makes me love her more. And she's teasing him with little lies that he believes (like if you hold your breath on the elevator, your wish will come true - she totally laughs at him when she catchs him trying to hold his breath, and he's all embarassed but steely trying not to show it, which is HOT)... and something about counting to five and if you say that person, it's the one you're in love with... So great, because he does that, and he sees Yoo-rin of course, but not just Yoo-rin standing there, but Yoo-rin watching in amazement as this pretty structure's (looks like a carousel or similar) lights come on, and it's so very very pretty.

And he realizes that he might be in love with her, and thinks that he's insane. And he's a bit cranky because of that, and because she keeps lying. He tells her that he's never fallen for any of her lies, so she pretend to choke in the car on the way home, and he pulls over and is frantically running into a store to get her water, and then realizes she's lying. He is as GRUFF and ANGRY as we've ever seen him and totally YELLS at her that she'd better not do that to him ever again (because he was so afraid that something would happen to her and he can't handle that).

OH GOD, then... THEN!! The grandfather arranges for a spontaneous surprise visit to Japan, leaving at that exact moment, without any warning, and she's desperately trying to find excuses as to why they can't go (because the family thinks that her father lives there, so they're going to meet him) and calling Gong-chan, who is mad and ignoring her phone call, until it's too late and they are already at the airport. Left with no other choice, because she can't let them find out, she purposely trips down a flight of stairs. This is amazing, and presents such a contrast between her and Sae-hyun, b/c Sae-hyun is incredibly selfish whereas Yoo-rin, like, threw herself down a flight of stairs to protect Gong-chan and his lie. And when Gong-chan finds out what happened, he RACES to the hospital, and his all "are you okay?" and is all caring and gentle - until he knows that she's okay, and then he LAYS into her, because she really could have hurt herself and he never asked her to do that, and they could have thought of something, and I love him even more. Then she reassures him that it's all right, because she's not really hurt, she just made a fuss so that she'd be hospitalized and not have to go on the trip, but he's still angry that she would have done something like that for him, and leaves all briskly... but he comes back later (bringing her food that she asked for, which he said he wouldn't), and she's asleep, and he's pulling the covers over her, and stroking her forehead (DEAD, I am DEAD) and telling himself how crazy he is. And Jeong-woo sees it, and says "oh no, not you too?" because he can tell, and up to that point, didn't know how Gong-chan felt about Yoo-rin. Dude.

Oh, and later? They're talking about the orchard in Jeju, and the family's all, like, why don't we go there and throw a party for you and all your friends? Which they CAN'T do, because of the lie, so Gong-chan says he'll take her, and she's all happy and excited about the trip, because it's the place her and her father stayed in the longest so it feels like home. And even he's all excited about it and looking forward to it.

That is where I left off. I need more.

OH, I almost forgot once of the GREATEST SCENES EVER. They're alone in the house together one night, and Yoo-rin freaks out and locks herself in her room, and it is HILARIOUS. He brings her food, and knocks on her door - and you hear her unlocking the door and moving the chair she'd used to barricade the door out of the way. She opens the door barely a crack to see what he wants, and grabs the bag, slamming the door. You hear her lock it and move the chair back, and Gong-chan is all "WHY DOES SHE THINK SHE NEEDS TO LOCK THE DOOR? WHAT DOES SHE THINK I AM?" and bangs on the door and asks her about it. And she's all "maybe it's to keep me locked in my room so I don't attack YOU" and he's stunned, and she giggles goes: "Don't like that idea TOO much. Rawr" (the 'rawr' is complete with accompanying actions) and I'm ROFLMAO, because was just too cute and funny and oh dear god, I love this OTP.

Is it the weekend yet? I plan to MARATHON the rest of this series, because I just... I NEED to.
