Ahh good ole New York. It was a tough 9 days. Good, but tough. I spent from the crack of dawn till 11ish everyday taking classes. One of the guys who taught me sat next to Jason Schwartzmen to auditon for Rushmore and he tried out for the part of Ricky in American Beauty. Granted he got neither, but still, that seems so amazing to me. I got to meet a bunch of people on broadway and get mostly vocal training from them. There is nothing more nerve racking than singing for the best. Especially Sutton Foster who just one a freakin Tony. In between acting classes I took yoga and pilates. I really hope I have the initiative to keep up with that, I absolutely loved it. It was perfect with a cute little instructor from Poland with the stereotypical yoga accent and all. Of course this week was also full of deprivation. I had no meat, dairy, bread, caffeine, carbonation, cigarettes(im glad for this one), non-broadway music, news, or any contact with the outside world. It is so nice to eat something other than tofu, beans, vegetables, and water. Last night I performed a monologue on an off-broadway stage: union square theater. Scary as shit. There were all the agents in the audience including some of CBS daytime TV. Thoughts of Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Jessica Parker, Zachary Tye Brian, and Mischa Barton doing the same thing years before filled my head. I got out there to go and as I was saying the author of the piece I was doing (Janet Milstein), I freaked out and froze and said the first name that came to mind... Susan B. Anthony. Women's Rights?!! Ooops, lets hope the audience was either dumb or not listening to me. Other than that I did alright, not the performance of a lifetime, but not disappointing either. Whew, still get butterflies thinking about it. Ooh and I found a roomy for NYC, it would be amazing, she already lives up in an apartment there and I LOVE her, but everything is still so hazey as to what Ill do in a year.
It feels really good to be home. It was a great experience, but its nice to be back. Anyone who wants to be an actor obviously loves being the center of attention, so being surrounded by people dying for attention 24/7 will just about drive you insane. I missed you all a ton. It sounds like everyone had fun. I missed out on a few paloozas. Hopefully more to come.
Look forward to seeing you all.
