Me too. This is why I loved Babylon AD so much (and all post apocalyptic stories like this.) Ive just received a book about a postapocalyptic story too. I hope ti will be good. Heheh yeah
Well Babylon AD is pretty weak movie really... stuff like The Postman or I, Legend is far better :) Or Children of Men (which I didn`t quite like either, actually). There are many real goo postapocaliptic movies... like THX 1138 :) or say Twelve Monkeys, Zardoz, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, The Handmaid's Tale, 28 Days Later... The Omega Man, Logan`s Run and Silent Running, Mad Max, Cherry 2000... I love the genre...
hehe well I like it I watched it several times to find mythological stuff and I liked it. But you're so right when you say there's better. I remember at the end of Final Fantasy I was just "woooaaaa" :p Same for Twelve Monkeys?
You know, you had such a great idea when you comment in my FO entry *hugs you tight*
You know, I`m not sure. Maybe Twelve Monkeys or Brazil But really... maybe that`s not exactly postapocalyse - Equlibrium - definitely my fave :) But there is one movie, which is in fact postapocalypse, but we don`t think of it that way - Matrix. Humanity destroyed by the machines... turned into batteries... so.. there is my top 5: Matrix Equlibrium Brazil Twelve Monkeys Mad Max What is yours?
Equilibrium is awesome. And I would say it's postapocalypse I mean it was after a war so let's keep it :p
Brazil? I don't know that one!
Mines? I don't know. For sure Matrix and Equilibrium are in the highest. I don't really remember Twelve monkeys I was too young when I watched it and I didn't understand everything. Same for Mad Max I remember I enjoyed it but can't remember it very well. Such a long time not see. Ive loved a lot Land of Deads of Romero. And Im waiting for "The Road" Im reading the book and I lvoe it.
oh yeah sorry for the edit but I forgot, I know it's not really a post apocalypse movie but it's so dark... and questionning so many things it could have been one : Blade Runner
Brazil is definitely must see - it`s by Terry Gilliam, very visual and very smart film about the same stuff Equlibrium is about. A little bit like Kafka`s novels. I was absolutely stunned by it when I watched it first time. I haven`t seen Land of the Dead actually. I am waiting for The Road too - I saw the trailer and I liked it very much.
Blade Runner is on my personal top ten list of all times. Fist of all I`m a huge Philip K Dick fan, I`ve read all his sci-fi novels and short stories. And actually there is another must see film of the kind - Gattaca. Not postapocalypse but as stylish as Equilibrium - visually and it`s about dreaming of space and about what is human - the question that Blade Runner discusses too. Gattaca is a prefect example how to make maximum spiritual impact with minimum effects - and very visually stylish too. Just amazing!
Ive just added it in my list! I love it (well Im partial because I love Romero)
Same I love Blade Runner. You're right!! How could I have forgotten Gattaca. It's was great too. And I think it appears that movies that are kinda "minimalist" are the best usually. (maybe because in a lot of huge SF movies, they huge special effects to hide weak points ?)
Yeah, you are right about minimalizm in those movies - just compare Pitch Black and The Riddick Chronicles. I love them both, actually, but Pitch Black is clearly a better film on the whole. Not to mention that they are movies of different genre even. Even Star Wars, I love the classic trilogy, but not the prequels... where the vfx obscure the main characters!
I so want to marry you!! I so agree on StarWars. Im in love with the old trilogy but the new one, oh god, I so don't like them. The only part I like is the battle of coruscant because visually each time I saw it Im just "woa it's so beautiful" but that's all. And about Pitch Black, same thing. You're also right to say they are from a dofferent genre, Pitch Black is really more noir and ask deepest questions than Riddick (I love both but you see what I mean)

It ironically looks like T4 :)))
