Well its been a while since I have been here and let everyone know how I am doing. I am good, Allergy problems acting up, but will get through it. My second semester in a new college is almost over, and once again geting stressful!!!! But as Aretha Franklin said in one of her famous songs, "I will survive!!!" That is very true.!!! I have been student teaching at a local junior high down the street from me, and I am enjoying teaching the students. They seem to want to learn for the most part, but are scared of their director, due to his meanness. It seems he like to put them down or belittle them, not physicaly, but emotionally. At least that is what I have noticed. I have great and valueable info in music and instruments and haow to play them, but he even dislikes my say so in how they should do things. He did not go to a special music school and learn the teaching skills I learned. He instead is a great musician, but not a great teacher. For crying out Loud!!! The day before their U.I.L Contest, I saw that the Timpini was out of tune and I went over and asked the player if she tuned it or knew how, and her reply was "No." However she has been playing for 5 years, and he told me in a sort of mean way..." I will be just glad if she can play the rhythem right!" I mean that is just belittleing their creative and music talent! Man I want to get my music degree fast so then I can take his place and teach them so much and not belittle them like he does! He does not really care I think or understand that the kids in his band are very talented, most have been playing for 4-5 years, unlike me when I was at that school. It was my second year, and I was advanced. I also, think that it really would not hurt if he would challenge their musicianship, by asking them to play scales other than Concert Bb! They need organization and are crying out for it, the yneed guidence and I am trying my best, and if I am luck maybe he will let me guest conduct a tune for their spring concert? I have to ask of course. He needs to have the band arrangement set up before the y come in and then they get their horns and tune and are ready to go. That is how I did it since I was a beginner. Now I don't even really have to take time to tune cause I have an ear to hear if I am out of tune and that can only come with Practice. I am hoping that I will get some students over the summer and if they can pay me my fee that would be great, but I even told them that if they don't have the money I will teach them for free. I really hope I can get some students soon. I love teaching and playing music!!! It is my life and Hopefully I will succeed as a great or the greatest Director in Texas for the level I teach at? One never know? Until they get into there and attack it!
Well, with that Tah tah for now.
