Rawr. So I have one episode of Kuroshitsuji to go.
I have enjoyed it, but there are a couple of points that I want to have a mini-rant about.
Soooo....
I really enjoyed episode 21 when they gave us time about the three servants of the Phantomhive household. That completely kicked bottom and to be honest, I'm far more interested in their pasts then I am in Ciel's. I find Ciel to be... a really annoying person. The series seems intent on ramming down my throat just how tragic his past is, yet the continued denial of showing anything that doesn't lend to 'omg, angst' in regards to said past just makes me want to roll my eyes. The servants? Love them and want to know more about them. Ciel? Blarg.
And really, hands up who didn't pick out Aberline as 'side character most likely to die a noble, yet pointless death so as to crucially affect main character' episodes upon episodes before it even happened. Seriously, when he started turning up regularly talking to Ciel there was a good chance of it, but by the point that he mentioned that he was about to get married to his sweetheart and they were going to have a baby... instant death certificate right there. The animators might just have well painted a target on him.
I also found Lau's death to be... shallow? I just didn't care when he died as there was nothing in his character that had been hinted at or shown for me to empathise or connect to. In fact I found him to be such a bland character that it was a really jagged jump for me when his part in the plot suddenly became important. I knew it was coming, but just in terms of plot sense it felt badly handled. He went from 'randomly appearing amusing character' to 'really damn important character' with no transition inbetween. And there I was... just bored.
Ah blarg. It just comes down to taste. Overall I'd label it enjoyable, but shallow watch. (or "Watch it for the pretty, don't watch it for the plot")
Noof, need to watch Full Metal Panic, Escaflowne or 12 Kingdoms again. Now their plots? Hell yeah. XD
