i actually just got the best present ever for my bday but jonah just told me i can’t talk about it on the internet until later so i can’t tell you more yet. jonah is a fuddy duddy.
of course i always have random overpriced clothing on my wishlist, but i was thinking about what i REALLY want, and i remembered that the best presents are always small things you never thought of before, or things that are extremely useful or beautiful that you would never have bought yourself. herein, a list of things i would generally forget to buy for myself:
1. uniqlo heattech anything/smartwool socks
it’s still so cold. i feel like spring will never come! i always forget to buy useful things like warm layers, and i have promised myself that i will buy snowboots next winter and possibly also rainboots/a raincoat, because my current strategy of just letting myself get cold and wet is not working. i was sick for about three months this winter and it was horrible.
2. this book:

3. macarons from laduree or chocolate/lemon croissants from momofuku, or pretzel croissants from city bakery
oh man i love those macarons so much but they are on the upper east side and i never go there because it is a scary, scary place (it really is like gossip girl but without the glamorous parts - only the mommy dearest parts remain). and i’m just a sucker for delicious buttery croissants.
4. an amazon gift certificate because there are lots of books i want to read right now
5. because i was looking at the criterion sale, i was reminded that i would like to own 3 women, Pina, and the Lubitsch musical box.
6. song to comus: the complete collection (i keep forgetting to buy this)
7. a portrait of my cat
i’m not talking professional level here, i think it would be hilarious to just have non-artist people try to draw my cat and then collage it all into a large gilded frame and hang it.
8. some sort of weird elaborate ear piercing
i don’t think this one will come true because i have never had a good experience with piercing and always end up having to take it out. still, i’m attracted to the idea of a conch piercing or an orbital.

9. a professional massage (specifically not asian, because asian massage equals MASSIVE PAIN, for me)
i might make this one come true. my lupus/fibro issues have been coming up again for the first time in a while. when i touch my back it feels like a burn with a hot iron (we’re talking simply touching with a single finger, not poking or prodding).
10. brunch and a chance to hang out with you, my friend
i think turkish eggs might be the most sublime food in existence.
NOTE: i am not expecting anyone to fulfill this list.
