Writing an LJ was not on my mile long list of things to do today, but I de-activated my facebook account so I have to get my fill in some how. Reasons for de-activation: -phishing scam, applying for teaching positions, and the small fact that I will probably save myself a couple hours a day which will now be spent more usefully. Down side to this: I will be out of touch with the world. Meh. I don't know that I care that much about that. I don't think I need facebook to stay in contact with my friends.
Last night was... interesting. I went to a birthday party for a new friend's boyfriend. All of the older elite gays were there. The ones who were successful enough to be known, at least around here. It was fun though. I like getting to know new people.
Sometimes I'm not sure why I do certain things. I think partially just to prove to myself that I can. That it's an option for me if I want it. Which isn't always the best way to make decisions.
Student teaching is everything that I hoped it would be. I think I actually like it more than I thought I would. The kids are already responding to my teaching methods. There was a sub the other day and she let me teach for a little bit of one period and all of the kids were really interested in what we were doing... and that wasn't even a planned lesson. I was just winging it. Point of the story: the next day when the teacher was back, he asked what they went over and the kids told him that I taught them and then one kid said "she's a really good teacher!" and then all of a sudden half of the class was yelling out about how good of a teacher they thought I was. It made me feel pretty damn good. I can't wait to actually start teaching them the lessons that I'm planning. I think they'll like it a lot more than what they're doing right now.
If I wasn't positive that I wanted to be a teacher before, I am now. 100%
Anne and I decided that we're staying here at the illustrious Andover Gardens next year. I think we're going to move up a floor though, so we can have a deck and a grill and what not. That will really open up our food options when the weather is nice. Plus I love reading outside... so a deck would be nice.
I feel like I haven't gotten that much done since the semester started... but I've already applied for my teaching license, applied for my degree application, written my resume and reference list, and asked for letters of rec. Basically all I have left to do besides my normal teaching responsibilities is write a cover letter, a letter of inquiry, and look up information on the school districts that I'll be applying for. OH! which reminds me. The position I'm looking for might be opening up in West Branch, which is where I'm student teaching right now... which means I would have a pretty good in. Especially if I invite the principal in to watch me teach. That would be awesome to not have to go through a really rigorous interviewing process. Plus I absolutely LOVE the school.
Ok. Time to write out some more lesson plans.
