It's that time of year to look back at my goals of this past year and see how I did.
Goals of 2007
Career Goals
-+Join a teaching affiliated club( I tried, but it didn't fit in my schedule, but the pure goal here was to make connections, and network, and I definitely did that.)
+Use less sarcasm (especially around kids)
++Raise Cumulative GPA by at least .1 (allowing me to student teach wherever I want)
+Start creating my teaching resume
Personal Goals
-Get a house where I can have a dog
-Adopt a dog(don't want either of these two anymore)
++Don't break any bones(Thank God!)
++Receive a B- or higher on both Calculus and Statistics
++Get on the dean's list again for next two semesters
-Tell Grandparents that I'm gay (still want to do)
+Continue making more straight friends, especially male… since I really don't have many
+Volunteer somewhere
+Read more… at least 24 books this year
+Go somewhere I've never been
+See another Broadway production (I did, but not a different one)
Personality Goals
-+Listen more, talk less (I have been lately, but not a huge strenghth of mine
-+Don't give advice unless people ask for it( I have been more cautious, but not great about this.)
Health
++Get foot back in shape up to running a mile without it hurting
--Ride a longer amount of Rag Brai than I did last year
++-+Lose some weight ( I fluctuate too much, but on my way back down)
+-Drink more water! Keep myself hydrated(Still working on this)
-More cooking healthy meals and less eating out
+-Drink a healthier amount of alcohol
-+No more smoking of legal or illegal substances, which isn't a huge problem, but cut it all out. (It took me a while, but I have now accomplished this)
Overall, it didn't seem like too bad of a year. This past semester I recieved the highest GPA that I have ever gotten at the U of I. I'm getting ready to student teach and have made extremely important networks with people in very high places, which has already paid off. I have a stronger group of friends then I have had since freshmen year, if not stronger than ever. I feel like life couldn't be much better right now.
On NYE my friends and I all made speeches, and in mine, I talked about how this year past year had the potential to be one of the worst and most difficult times in my life. And although it was, My friends, specifically Dustin, helped me to turn it completely around and become one of the best years of my life. And without people like dustin, thang, anne, beth, mark, julie, and many others, I don't think this year could have been as amazing as it was. For me to know that I took one of the worst years and turned it into one of the best, with the help of my friends, gives me a lot of hope towards life. This past year has definitely been one of learning. If 2008 is as good as 07, I will be happy. But I have a feeling it's going to be even better.
