Okay, so we're not as badly hit here in the Clavicle of Texas as y'all are up north, but still, we're not used to temps of 15° F (with a wind chill of 6° F and that's at 7:30 PM -- they're predicting lows of 11°F with wind chills of -4° F tonight. I'm having flashbacks to my dad's funeral -- brrrr).
Our front door is effectively blocked with a 1" thick sheet of ice over the entire stoop right up to the door frame (may take a crack at breaking it up tomorrow, but it will require me standing IN the doorway and letting heat out, so we'll see), and I had to crawl along the face of the house in order to get out the back door and wrap both outside taps this afternoon (and one tap almost didn't get wrapped because I couldn't open the fence gate due to ice blocking it on the other side -- finally got it open wide enough to squeeze through). And the driveway outside the garage is an elegantly canted skating rink, so no getting out that way. Already called TPTB and told them I probably won't be in the office tomorrow unless things warm up ahead of schedule.
On the plus side, we have food for days and a gas-powered fireplace so that's all good, plus there's a big pot of zuppa toscana on the stove and I still have two series of the Granada Sherlock Holmes to work through. All in all, it could be a lot worse.
winter,
