Greetings from New Orleans

Where I have just spent the last two days walking around the French Quarter, eating great food, drinking some very tasty alcohol (but not nearly as much as last year, due to reasons explained below) and having a great time with my sister, my nephew and my friend Theresa.

They are currently off on a Haunted Tour of the French Quarter -- I passed because not only am I in day 5 of a rather hellacious cold which has now settled firmly in my lungs, I am also in day 2 of my Special Lady Time, and I spent the last two days walking all over the place in mid 80's heat and close to 100% humidity, plus I still have two weeks in England ahead of me. When we got in from this afternoon's outing, my body pretty much said, "Okay, we're going to bed now, whether you like it or not." I decided that my body had a point, crawled into a hot shower to try steaming out my sinuses, and retired to my rather comfortable bed.

But it's hardly as if I'm alone. Our room is on Bourbon Street, you see, which means I can currently hear not one, not two but three live bands blaring out music (one singer just shouted, "Make some noise if you masturbate!"), and look out my window onto the balcony on the bar across the street where some male partiers are enjoying a novel form of test tube shots where the hot young blonde waitress tilts her head back, slips the bottom of the tubes in for a second to slick them up, then turns around and sticks the tubes into the waistband of her short shorts, at which point a patron is invited to obtain the shots using only his mouth. This has been a favored way of obtaining shots, unsurprisingly.

I also have a new companion for my writing desk, purchased at Oh Susannah's Doll Shop. Pictures will be forthcoming, but let me just say that the little raven on his shoulder is adorable.
