The door might have been open, but Ender? Still knocking.

He was just checking by to see how Tony was settling in - he had a feeling the answer would be 'reasonable', but it never hurt to check. "Hey."

He had his computer and a problem to solve. He was doing juuuust fine.

"Hey," Tony replied, focus on the computer for another moment before he caught up with what wad happening outside his brain. "Oh, hey. Come on in."

"What are you working on?" Ender asked. If he was ruffled by the distracted reaction, it certainly wasn't obvious; he walked into the room with a neutral-but-interested expression on his face.

"Just a few additions to a project I've been working on," Tony said, torn between thinking the plans were too advanced for Ender to read and the urge to cling and hide it in a completely suspicious manner.

Ender glanced around the room for a convenient seat - keeping upright would be awkward. "Is it anything you can tell me about?"

Tony scooted over to give him a spot to sit on the bed. "It's--an exo-suit that I was working on before coming here."

Before the plane crash and everything went to hell and back.

Ender sat down, taking a quick glance over at Tony and his laptop. "With what application?" he asked, interested, though probably not for the reasons Tony would think he was.

"It was designed for protection in harsh environments," Tony replied with a quick grin. "It was supposed to top my dad's last invention."

"Another battle in the not-quite-arms-race?" Ender asked, infusing it with a little humor. That tended to put people at ease.

The smile remained, but it was less than before. "Yeah. His thing was all about archeology, so I think I won with this."

Another quick glance that way, and Ender made note of the cord slipping under Tony's shirt. No. Definitely not an arc reactor, this time. "So how does it work?" he asked. "I think I've seen something with the basic structure of an exosuit like that before, but if you want to share any specifics..."

"You have?" Damn you, future! Tony pulled up more of the schematics, zooming in on the helmet to show him the a few of the programed functions as of yet.

"I have," Ender echoed, "But that doesn't mean you can't stun me with innovation." He leaned in a little to get a better look at the screen. "What kind of interface have you got in there?"

"It can be operated remotely from a control system or from within. But that would involve both eye movement for the systems control and a sort of intuitive motion that will follow your own without straining the user." Because it was a freaking heavy suit of armor.

"In other words, a lot of servomotors," Ender said, with a wry tug of his mouth, "And even more complicated software."

Tony grinned at him, too happy to have someone keep up. "Well, the idea was for it to be used to rescue people in places where it was too dangerous to reach. The suit could be flown in remotely and then automatically assemble around the individual and monitor their vital signs until it reached the doctors."

Or perform surgery. THANKS, ROBO-SUIT.
