as if you ever were

I sit at the bottom of my shower, hugging my knees to my chest, letting the scolding hot water beat down upon me and run down my face. The emptiness is comforting, though it does not heal the headache, or the heartache, it is just a temporary comfort. As all things, the comfort comes to an end, I turn the shower off, the gentle onslaught of the water washes away with the serenity of solitude and I am met by the cold, dry air.
