Fun with Pestilence: The Spiders

The World of Darkness is a place where immortal monsters pull the strings of humanity. Violence and despair are common here. The world is bleak, but escape is an ever-present commodity - perhaps too present...There's something in the air itself: something that tickles the senses of those skilled in hunting, or fighting. The Fledgling warned them to carry only weapons they can hide: the city is even more nervous and twitchy with the epidemic and an extra helping of violence.

The last thing they need is undue attention from authorities.

The aura of the Fledgling's world heightens Annabelle's usual wariness, a subtle shift in her stance that speaks of a readiness for trouble.

The bag over her shoulder LOOKS innocent enough, at least so long as no one opens it.

Urquhart stays very still at first, just looking.

Taking in what is different from the last times. Taking in how the air tastes.

Different... well, less people on the streets, considering the mild weather.

The Fledgling glanes around, then turns left and starts walking. "Jezebel Locke. The Empire Arms Hotel." Obviously, that's where she's leading the group.

Ah, the city fauna: gang members, posers and prostitutes, the young wealthy and the destitute old, in small numbers but present, clustered around bars and dance clubs. Some watch the small group go by, but none move to interrupt or intercept.

Annabelle follows her, wary. The city fauna are different than what she remembers, but fall into the same types, more or less.

She's hunting, but not any of THEM. Not tonight.

If nobody bothers them, they won't bother anybody, as far as Urquhart is concerned.

They're here on business.

Business that takes them to a bit fancy hotel: The Empire Arms. It has a rather pretentious entryway, and the decoration toes the line of tacky. "She's in here. Somewhere."

Now, which of the... dozens? Maybe hundreds of apartments?

The sight of the size of the place prompts Annabelle to exercise some of her multilingual profanity.

"Damn. This may take a while."

"We need to narrow things down," Urquhart says. "Will she have guards? Is she going to have a large accommodation? Will people be coming and going on errands? Will she prefer the basements or the top floor? Are you able to sense her in some vampiric way?"

"No. Yes. Maybe." The vampire takes a moment to sort the Madness around a bit. "Little Fly said a room."

She looks up. "Jezebel Locke. We ask?" The Fledgling points to the doors and the front desk beyond.

"Asking's a good place to start," Annabelle says with a shrug. "We may even get the truth."

"Can you?" Urquhart asks Annabelle. "You look the most harmless among us."

And the least crazy, too.

Unless you want to confuse the front desk clerk.

"Asking me to employ my feminine wiles, hm?" she jokes. "I suppose I can make an attempt at charming the information out of them."

She heads over to the desk clerk, putting on her best smile and a slightly sheepish expression. "Excuse me, but could you tell me Jezebel Locke's room number? I wrote it down, but the damn paper got wet and now it's an illegible blob..."

The Desk Clerk offers a professional smile, but there is a less-than-professional gleam in his eye as he gives Annabelle an once-over. "I don't believe Miss Locke warned us of expecting a visitor tonight... but she is one of our most popular guests. Whom I shall announce?"

While this, nonchalantly outside, The Fledgling is relaying the conversation to Urquhart.

Feel free to ask later how she does that, eavesdropping from that distance.

That less than professional gleam is potentially useful.

"Oh, no need to go all formal," she says with a smile. "I'm not that bad at finding my way. You just give me the number and I'll head right on up."
