4th website review: Perfect Paws!

Aug 17, 2005 22:35

back in april, my boyfriend and i bought a puppy from a pet store at Upmarket Pets near Queen Victoria Market. we decided to name her Ginger. anyway, she was around 9 weeks old when we got her and a mix between a West Highland Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier. Here's a couple pictures of her.

anyway, i never had a dog before so i was pretty overwhelmed with the immense responsibility that was shoved in my hands once i brought her home. i thought it was just gonna be all fun and games but god.. was i in for a big surprize. i live in an apartment so i'd have to take her out to the courtyard all the time so that she wouldn't pee or poop inside. the first week i ended up having a lot of sleepless nights because i had to take her out every 3-4 hours. there were still stain markets on the carpet. and well training can really be a pain...

so one of the million websites that i looked at about puppy training was Perfect Paws. it's the first website that showed up when i searched "puppy training" on Google. at first glance, it didn't look that impressive with the design being so amateurish. however, despite the design being pretty tasteless, it makes up for it in content. i found the content very useful because it pretty much answered all my questions about puppy training. although i looked at other websites, i thought this website was easy to follow in terms of language and had just about everything i needed.

there's a section dedicated only to puppy training and inside i found really useful articles such as "Puppy Basics - Training the First Week" and "Housetraining a Puppy". For me, housetraining was the number 1 thing to train my dog before anything else with teaching "sit" coming in close to first. Although the length of the articles were pretty long to read, surprizingly, i didn't really mind because the content was useful and interesting.

navigation was easy to use. the navigation bar ran horizontally on the top part of the screen, below the header, and there was a link back to Home which i thought was good since it allows me to get back to the first page easily. although the navigation bar had links saying "Dog Training 101" and "Dog Training 201", i didn't use it because i used the more prominent links that were displayed in the middle on the page. So i thought the navigation bar was pretty useless since most people would probably click on the prominent links instead. It leads to the same articles anyway but they're just categorized differently.

there were also ads on this website that i thought was annoying. i mean, the header had a medium size Perfect Paws text written on the top-left screen and next to it is a random ad that changes everytime you refresh the page and takes up 3/4 of the header. there were also ads running vertically on the left and right side of the website AND on the bottom. there's also a Google search bar at the very bottom... which i thought was weird. maybe that's why this site came up first on the Google search list because it supports Google ads so much.

and... just as i was typing this my dog just peed on the carpet again~! *sigh*

anyway, i have more pictures of my dog up here so feel free to check them out. i also have other photo albums in there from my trips to San Francisco, Japan, Australia from last year so if you want to see them go ahead. i finally got a chance to upload them a few days ago. and i just gotta say that Japan's probably one of my favorite places to go travelling~! i only got a chance to visit tokyo but i'm definitely going back to check out the other cities like Osaka and Kyoto.

love the culture and food :D
