CHARACTER
NAME: Soundwave
AGE: Millions of earth years. Being made of non-organic substances is great for keeping that youthful look. That, and lifespans tend to be a little different for robots.
FANDOM/MEDIUM: Transformers: Prime. CG television show.
CANON PULL-POINT: End of Season 1. He will know many spoilers, but, due to his nature, he'll probably keep quiet about them.
ABILITIES: Soundwave is the decepticon's chief Communications Officer, and a master at signal processing, encryption, decryption, and hacking. While these are all very, very useful skills out on the prairie 100 years before a recognizable computer is invented, he does supplement such 'advantages' with extensive combat training and experience. Four million years fighting the Cybertronian equivalent of the civil war can make a bot adept at such things. Still, he prefers a 'hands-off' approach, which is possibly why a part of him can detach, turn into
a mechanical bird, and fly around to take care of business for him. Its very useful when he needs to scout, or spy on fellow Decepticons. When even the bird fails, he can change from his robot-mode into his alt-mode, a RPV airjet similar to the
MQ-9 Reaper. In this mode, he is capable of flight, though he is interestingly not capable of carrying a passenger.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Wiki Article! :
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Soundwave_%28Prime%29 Brief summary:
Soundwave has been involved in the massive civil war tearing apart his homeworld of Cybertron since its inception, millions of years in the past. He fights for the Decepticons, and has fought for the Decepticons even before their leader, Megatron, had an inkling Decepticons would exist. His loyalty to the cause (and to Megatron, himself) is renown throughout the ranks on both sides, as Soundwave strives constantly and diligently for the success of the Decepticons and the praise of his commander.
Originally a gladiator in the underground of Kaon, Soundwave gained notoriety by being one of the few bots capable of providing a challenge to the undisputed champion, Megatron. He became one of the future warlord's first supporters, and brought his small cadre of minibots onto the team, watching over them and protecting them in exchange for their extensive espionage capabilities.
Although over time most of his mini-bots were lost, Soundwave soldiered on, withdrawing further into himself and into his computer networks as he had less and less reason to interact with the outside world.
His extensive communications skills have afforded the Decepticons many victories, as it was most often Soundwave who would spy on mechs on both sides, learning key information and passing it along to Megatron. No mech was safe from his prying optics, and many a backstabbing plot by Starscream was foiled by Soundwave's clever intel-gathering.
CHARACTER PERSONALITY:
As most Decepticons would tell you when asked about Soundwave, "What Personality?"
On the surface, he seems to be little more than a complex computer with a vaguely humanoid shape. Any mouth or optics he might have are obscured by a luminescent panel, one that can display waveforms and images as necessary. Though capable of it, he refuses to speak, instead communicating through mimicry or visual aids. He rarely engages with others, believing it to be a waste of time when not absolutely necessary, preferring to focus on his assignments, his intelligence gathering, or manning his post. Information is of utmost importance to him, and the acquisition of such could be said to be the only thing that gives him any pleasure, anymore.
Most of his emotions have been dampened or deleted, allowing additional processing power for signal analysis.
However, he is not completely cold circuitry. In his past, Soundwave had many small individuals that he cared for and provided for. Though the relationship was symbiotic, with Soundwave receiving their loyalty and abilities for his disposal, there were many times at which he risked himself and his plans to keep them safe. Their loss has affected him significantly, causing him to bury himself in his work over the millennia in order to never fully confront the issue at hand. He may, because of this, be capable of reaching out to humans and other small creatures...but his interactions with them will be unpredictable at best.
One can also prompt emotional response in reference to Soundwave's leader, Megatron. He has fought fiercely to defend the mech and his cause, and will continue to do so even in his absence. Of all the programming Soundwave kept, loyalty was high on the list, and his passion for the success of the Decepticons and the glory of Megatron may even parallel his passion for data accrual.
He may, also, have a fondness for music, though good luck figuring that one out behind his stolid visage.
WORLD:
Cybertron, before the war, was in the declining years of its Golden Age, a time of great technological and cultural progress for the race of the Transformers. Their homeworld was flourishing, a paradise of gleaming towers and metal verandas, and space travel, at least within their home system, was relatively commonplace. They had dealings with many other races in the galaxy, and yet lived, safe and secure, in a society that had relatively few problems.
Unfortunately, the very peace that they enjoyed created a stagnation.
The governments began to lean toward corruption, passing unjust laws in an effort to keep Cybertron controlled and the rich in power. Mechs became classified under a system of rigid castes, where form determined function and only the elite of society even being granted such basic rights as a name.
From out of the underground, a Gladiator named Megatron began a revolution, believing in the rights of mechs to earn their way in the world, and to take what they deserved. He found a helping hand in one Orion Pax, a librarian with enough knowledge of Cybertron's past and present to give Megatron's cause a voice within the upper world. Together, they fought for change...
But when the time came for them to speak before the council, the educated Orion Pax was chosen as the mech to represent the future Megatron had fought for, and, betrayed, Megatron rebelled. He fought for the world he'd wanted by fighting, choosing destruction of the old as the best way to build the new.
Orion took the mantle of leadership offered by the council, and fought his old friend Megatron to keep Cybertron safe.
The war began.
The war...didn't end.
For modern Cybertronians, battle is the only constant. They live within great battleships or bases far from home, the remnants of their culture's technology becoming scarce and prized as an advantage. Energon, their source of fuel, is difficult to find, and completely depleted on their home planet of Cybertron. The war extends across the stars, across hundreds of systems that Decepticons have invaded and collected energy and weaponry from.
Few transformers remain.
None remain on Cybertron.
The current battle is for earth, taking place on human soil as the Decepticons fight to continue their race and restore Cybertron, while the Autobots fight to keep our planet safe.
Neither side has an advantage.
The battle...rages on.
OCCUPATION: Surveyor. Its basically what he's doing now, already. But...probably involving more land.

THIRD PERSON:
Soundwave listened.
In the distance, he could hear it coming, warbling faintly in strains of high frequency tone with an underlying rumble of base. The noise reverberated through the ground, transmitting slowly through the dense, rocky soil of the desert, permeating the air with thick, languid rhythms he could decipher into individual hoof-beats from miles away.
There were 247 earth-bound bovinae, a species of large, muscle-bloated organic life that the humans used for consumption, drinking its excrement and wearing its hides.
He could obtain one cattle, easily. The group would be...impressed.
The higher tones of the rumbling, however, were still a mystery.
Carefully, he shifted his focus with a high-pass broadband filter, canceling out the echoes in the lower range. His head tilted, straining, directing his audial cavity toward the fulcrum of the sound, standing perfectly still so that not even the squeaking of un-oiled joints would interfere with his self-designated mission.
Soundwave listened.
And, as Soundwave had been programmed to do, Soundwave heard.
"Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam..."
Instantly he shut off his audial receptors, abashed. He had misinterpreted the sound of hoofbeats, and quietly he amended the notation he'd been making in his earlier report: 246 earth-bound bovinae, and at least one horse with man, singing to them.
How he had come to be out here, on the surface of the planet, escorting a wagon across the plains...he would never know.
Why earth creatures behaved in the strange ways they did?
He hoped to never find out.
FIRST PERSON:
[Having made his first, unusual discovery, Soundwave quietly unspools one prehensile cable, wrapping it around the small communicator he was given. He plugs directly in, searches through his personal databanks, and finally selects the appropriate response.]
[The picture uploads almost instantly, a testament to the advanced technology of whatever is detaining him...but without saying a word, he transmits the image along with a direct feed of himself, pointing toward the distant hills.
There are cattle out there, in that direction.
It isn't up to him to fetch them.]
NOTES:
As is mentioned above and in his first person sample, Soundwave is pretty much mute. He'll go to great lengths to avoid directly speaking himself, but that doesn't stop him from parroting what others have said or displaying images to get his point across. (Similar to Bumblebee in the first Transformers movie, but without using music.) Since he is a hacker, it would be awesome if he could upload images or sounds to his communicator for transmitting along with his messages, since that would let him talk to others more easily. Whatever else he is allowed to do with the communicators, I leave completely to your discretion. <3
