I knew something had to give. After getting jobs & having them evaporate, I finally landed a plum gig at Bouchon. Dream job, y'all, in the bakery that's opening next week in Beverly Hills. I've been working in the Bistro for the past week & a half, but this week I have to train all day to open this place up. This week is also finals. I knew I couldn't do both, so I asked my chef instructor if I could sit in on the 6.00a class. He refused. I don't really understand why, but I can't afford to not have a job anymore. I'm down to almost nothing. So I had to leave school. I told my chef instructor that he was forcing me decide between school & paying my rent. That fucker did not give a shit. Good bye.
I can go back, but I'd have to pay for that class again. It already costs 40k to go there, which is more than most people who leave the program make per year working in the industry. Rip off!
Leaving wasn't that much of a choice, & I regret that things haven't worked like I wanted them to. My serving job (like the two others I've had previous) is practically non-existent. No one comes in, so I don't get tables. Just like at the Jamaican place, just like at the Indian place. No business, no shifts. (Though to be fair, the Jamaican place was so bad I wasn't planning on returning anyhow.)
Working for Thomas Keller Restaurant Group is too huge of an opportunity to pass up, I should mention. There aren't a lot of quality joints that give you benefits & a living wage. I don't even think most of the people that leave my program will get a stab at something like this. So even though I'm hugely bummed out about school, I'm still looking forward to a lot.
